San Fransokyo Square opens TODAY, August 31st, in Disney California Adventure. This spot used to be known as Pacific Wharf but is now themed to Disney’s Big Hero 6 movie, with updated restaurants, gift shops, and character meet-and-greets. Let’s check it out!

Fans of Disney’s film Big Hero 6 will be familiar with San Fransokyo — “where East meets West, and technology meets tradition.” San Fransokyo, as Disney shares, is “a fictional mash-up of two iconic cities – San Francisco and Tokyo.”

The new bridge

Guests can explore this transformed land, which includes refreshed dining experiences and new shopping experiences along with a Baymax meet-and-greet!

San Fransokyo Square

Dining locations you know and love from Pacific Wharf remain open, while new Asian-inspired eats have arrived as well. Other locations have been rethemed for San Franksokyo. All of the eateries and retail locations — both old and new — are still in keeping with the story of the reimagined land.

Decor in the new land

Today, we’re exploring it ALL.

Characters in San Fransokyo Square

San Fransokyo Square is home to a Baymax meet-and-greet!

It’s Baymax and Hiro!

You can meet both Baymax and Hiro Hamada at this location.

NEWS: ‘Once Upon A Time’ Is Coming to Hulu!

So we know you all probably subscribe to Disney+, but do you also subscribe to Hulu?

©Hulu

You might not think of Hulu as being the place to watch a show about classic fairy tales, but if you love Disney princesses and Disney movies, you may need to subscribe ASAP. That’s because one of Disney’s most underrated shows will be arriving on the streaming platform soon!

That show is Once Upon A Time, which originally aired on the Disney-owned network ABC. The series follows Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison), who learns that she’s the daughter of Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin). However, Snow, along with MANY other famous fairy tale characters, are trapped in the town of Storybrooke, their memories erased by a curse put on them by the Evil Queen (fabulously portrayed by Lana Parilla).

©ABC

That’s right. You’ve got princesses, pirates, villains, curses, and a whole lot more. The series aired for a total of seven seasons and expanded the stories of some of the most iconic characters from fairy tales and Disney movies, including characters from Beauty and the Beast, Merida, Cruella deVil, Anna and Elsa, and even Captain Hook (but this dashing version of Hook is unlike any you’ve seen before). Oh, did we mention there’s even a musical episode?

According to Entertainment Weekly, You’ll be able to watch all seven seasons — that’s 155 episodes — on Hulu as of Friday, September 1st. If you’ve already seen the season, now might be the PERFECT time for a re-watch (we know we’ll be there).

©ABC

Don’t have Hulu? Well, if you have Disney+, you can bundle the two streaming services together with ads for just $9.99/month. A Duo Bundle version without ads will be available soon for $19.99/month.

Stay tuned to DFB for more news! By the way, have you checked out the latest Disney-themed t-shirts in our store? Click here – you’ll want to pick some up before your next Disney trip!

The Most Completely Impractical Disney Popcorn Buckets (But We’re Still Buying Them)

Disney Popcorn Buckets are a WHOLE thing — we would know because we have our fair share of them.

We love seeing all the different popcorn buckets Disney comes out with

We’ve seen some REALLY cool ones, too. Yes, that includes the Figment Popcorn Bucket that everyone lost their minds over. And that EPCOT Food and Wine Festival Popcorn Bucket that looked like a picnic basket. Then there was the Cinderella Carriage Popcorn Bucket that was released for Disney’s 100th Anniversary. Here’s the thing. Many of the popcorn buckets are very cool, but they’re not very functional — that won’t stop us from buying them, though!

So let’s take a look at popcorn buckets that were kinda’ useless, but we still HAD to have them anyway. We know our fellow popcorn bucket fans understand!

Mr. Toad Popcorn Bucket

Okay, first, we didn’t care if the Mr. Toad Popcorn Bucket we saw last year was useful or not because it was MR. TOAD. Considering that Disney World no longer has a Mr. Toad attraction (at least Disneyland still does), we’re going to scoop up anything Mr. Toad-related.

Mr. Toad Popcorn Bucket

Still, this is more home decor than an actual popcorn bucket. The popcorn goes into the truck of Mr. Toad’s vehicle, and it’s just not a great vessel for holding popcorn.

Popcorn inside!

Again, though, we don’t care — this popcorn bucket was EVERYTHING when it was released. We know we’re not alone in thinking this because when this popcorn bucket came out, the lines were HUGE.

See More Photos of the Mr. Toad Popcorn Bucket

The Nightmare Before Christmas Mayor’s Car Popcorn Bucket

When Disney announced ON THE DAY of the first Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween party that there would be an exclusive Nightmare Before Christmas Car Popcorn Bucket, we rearranged our plans for the evening just to get our hands on it. Who cares if it isn’t actually super practical?

Not actually a popcorn bucket, but WE STILL BOUGHT IT

Yep, that’s right, the popcorn bucket just has a spot on top that holds a small box or bag of popcorn. So it’s not really a popcorn bucket at all (more of a bucket for your other popcorn bucket), but hey, that’s just semantics.

See More Photos of the Mayor’s Car Popcorn Bucket

Mickey Train Popcorn Bucket

Let’s head on over to the West Coast, where we found the Mickey Train Popcorn Bucket, which was designed the same way as the Nightmare Before Christmas One. It’s NOT a popcorn bucket, but a popcorn box holder, but again, we won’t argue with Disney on this one. Still, we can’t use either of these for popcorn at home, but we didn’t buy them for that anyway.

Mickey Train

Why? Because this was one of the coolest popcorn buckets we’d seen in a while. It’s probably one of the most DISNEY popcorn buckets ever, too, because it showcases Walt’s love for trains.

See More Photos of the Mickey Train Popcorn Bucket

Zero Popcorn Bucket

At least the Zero Light-Up Popcorn Bucket has a small compartment for popcorn, but it’s still not very useful if you’re just wanting something to hold your popcorn in at home while you’re watching your favorite movie on Disney+. Who cares, though, when it looks like this?

Zero Popcorn Bucket

And, as we said, it even lights up, so this is more a fun Halloween/Christmas decoration than a popcorn bucket.

See More Photos of the Zero Popcorn Bucket

Pumbaa Popcorn Bucket

The Pumbaa Popcorn Bucket was a MUST-BUY when it first came out. Just LOOK AT HIM. The Simba popcorn bucket has been around Disney’s Animal Kingdom FOREVER, so Pumbaa was a breath of fresh air (unless you stand downwind of him…or at least that’s what Timon says).

Pumbaa Popcorn Bucket

Well, Pumbaa has a little problem. Our reporter mentioned that his legs kept falling off! 😲 Reportedly, folks were accidentally dropping him and his little legs were flying everywhere. Poor Pumbaa! Still, he’s sitting on our mantle and we have no regrets. Hakuna Matata!

See More Photos of the Pumbaa Popcorn Bucket

Millennium Falcon Popcorn Bucket

The Millennium Falcon is cool. The Millennium Falcon Popcorn Bucket is cool. It’s also kinda’ flat in shape, which means it looks like there isn’t even a place ON IT to put the popcorn. But, hey, was it meant to do that anyway?

Millennium Falcon Popcorn Bucket

Anyway, you CAN put popcorn in it, but it’s awkward. Part of the top pops open like a little door and you can put a TEENY bit of popcorn inside it, but really, would anyone do that? We’ll just hang on to the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy that says it’s a popcorn bucket when it isn’t.

See More Photos of the Millennium Falcon Popcorn Bucket

Seriously, though, does anyone grab one of these popcorn buckets, take it home, and actually use it for popcorn? It’s a collectible, and that’s something Disney knows very well, which means Disney is going to keep on making them, practical or not. And here’s the thing — we’ll probably keep on buying them. 😂

These Are Some of the BEST Disney Popcorn Buckets We’ve Ever Seen!

‘Evil Dead: Rise’

A haunted house based on “Evil Dead: Rise” is coming to Halloween Horror Nights. Universal Studios Hollywood’s official website shares that the attraction will be based in a Los Angeles-area apartment building (thankfully, we don’t think they’re charging rent).

The website describes the experience as such:

An ancient curse rises in a new setting: an L.A. apartment building. The Book of the Dead is about to unleash unimaginable horrors on you and your scream squad. Evil has come home.

“Evil Dead: Rise,” the fifth film in the “Evil Dead” franchise, was released on April 21, 2023 to generally positive critical and fan reception. The Warner Bros. Pictures release earned just over $146 million at the worldwide box office, proving to be a financial success.

Holidayz in Hell

ush halloween horror nights hous

From New Year’s Eve to Thanksgiving, your favorite holidays to celebrate with your friends are going to hell. ‘Tis the season to scream in this holiday nightmare. The scarier, the merrier.

Holidayz in Hell is also set to make a return. The attraction was introduced as a scare zone at Halloween Horror Nights in 2018, and the theme was used again for a maze at Halloween Horror Nights 2019.

These attractions join an already extensive list of previously announced experiences, one of them being Monstruos: The Monsters of Latin America, an original house based on the folklore of Central and South America. There will also be a haunted house named Universal Monsters: Unmasked, an attraction based on the classic monster movies that helped the studio rise to entertainment prominence in the mid-20th century. Houses based on “Chucky,” “Stranger Things,” “The Exorcist: Believer,” “The Last of Us,” and “Chucky” are also in the lineup.

Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood will run on select nights from September 7 through October 31, 2023. To check out specific dates and some ticket and entry information, click here. Information for scare zones and live entertainment has also been released as of today, August 31.

Mel’s Die-In Neon Sign Will Be Lit for Halloween Horror Nights 32 Due to Guest Feedback at Universal Studios Florida

The smell of the fog and accompanying neon glow of Mel’s Die-In are staples of Halloween Horror Nights for many, though Mel’s Drive-In at Universal Studios Florida has been closed for refurbishment since June and is expected to remain closed through the Halloween Horror Nights season. While countless guests were disappointed by the restaurant’s temporary closure, the real nail in the coffin was when the neon sign (with the “r” and “v” removed for the scary festivities) remained off during the Team Member preview of HHN 32 yesterday, August 30.

Mel’s Die-In Neon Sign Will Be Lit

The Hollywood section of Universal Studios Florida was much darker with the lights off at Mel’s Drive-In during the Halloween Horror Nights Team Member. This added to the spooky vibes, but things just didn’t feel the same without Mel’s Die-In.

Due to the refurbishment, the power for this venue has been disconnected and the signs have been off recently. This was anticipated to last a few weeks, and news of the sign being off during the event was a great disappointment to fans. Taking photos at Mel’s Die-In is a tradition for many guests, so the notion of a completely dark Mel’s had many voicing their opinions.

After large amounts of feedback, power will now be run specifically to the Mel’s Drive-In sign during HHN event nights to create the Mel’s Die-In atmosphere we’re all dying to see.

Even though the sign will be lit, the restaurant will remain closed as refurbishment continues inside. While Mel’s is closed, guest can stop by Battery Park for a temporary Die-In experience with Peanut Blooder Burgers and more. Minion Cafe will also be open during Halloween Horror Nights along with several other restaurants and specialty food booths.

Are you excited to see the Mel’s Die-In sign lit for Halloween Horror Nights this year? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more Halloween Horror Nights coverage.

Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter Will Be Reprinted to Meet Demand, Additional Booster Product Arriving in October

To meet extremely demand for Disney Lorcana, the new trading card game’s official Twitter account has released some new information about plans to reprint Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter — in addition to additional booster product arriving this October, 2023.

Disney Lorcana Attempting to Meet Demand with More Product

Disney Lorcana TCG fans, we want to share the steps we’ve been working on to get more product into the market to meet demand.

Our goal is for fans to be able to purchase and enjoy the Disney Lorcana TCG product at the suggested retail price, and we will continue to take steps to ensure a level of availability and quality that keeps the market healthy for both collectors and players.

Additional booster product will start arriving in North American local game stores in October. We are also reprinting Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter, which will be available starting in Q1 2024 in North America and Europe.

According to announcements from the above thread, additional booster product is coming to North American local game stores in October, while a reprinting of The First Chapter will begin availability in the first fiscal quarter of 2024 for North America and Europe.

disney lorcana

Disney Lorcana officially launched in the U.S. Disney Parks & Resorts on Monday, August 28 — becoming available in the Downtown Disney District of California and Disney Springs of Florida. At Walt Disney World, starter decks sold out within the first hour of availability, and gift sets were in short supply, running extremely low around 7 p.m. ET that same day.

This game will also launch on shopDisney at midnight, September 1. The first day of September is additionally the official date Disney Lorcana will be available at big box stores, though some retailers have been selling the product early.

Difficult Choices for Local Stores & Mass Market Embargo Violations

Outside of the parks, Disney Lorcana stock allocation concerns have left Friendly Local Game Stores (FLGS) with challenging decisions to make ahead of the release.

One of our writers attended a FLGS Learn To Play release at Dragon Fire Games in Lynchburg, Virginia. The event was sold out, and the owner, Evan Garrett, decided to sell his entire stock allocation at MSRP, using a raffle drawing for event attendees to choose one additional item from his small allocation and up to 12 booster packs.

PXL 20230818 235634604 edited

“I chose to sell [our Lorcana stock] at MSRP because I wanted to grow the community here for gameplay,” said Garrett.

Selling at the highest price point might create a short term benefit, but long-term it would prevent the people who want to play the game from playing the game, and if this game is to succeed, it needs players playing the game!

Lorcana stock allocated to a FLGS.

The high market values of the limited Lorcana stock have led other shops to go in a different direction. MSRP for a Gift Set, for example, is $29.99; as of the writing of this article, TCGPlayer.com has the market value of that same set for $61.50, more than double its MSRP.

PXL 20230819 002753466

Some FLGS owners have defended their decisions to price their Lorcana stock competitively with online resellers, citing that the shop making the money instead of the resellers keeps their brick and mortar doors open and provides a space in the long term for players to play. Still, others have broken down multipacks to sell individual boosters from within these sets to ensure players have enough cards to participate.

When Ravensburger chose to give the game first to local game shops August 18, it withheld Lorcana stock from mass markets such as Target, Walmart, and Best Buy; however, to hit shelves on September 1, shipments to these big box retailers have to arrive prior to that date so they may be stocked. Whether intentional or not, Florida, Idaho, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Louisiana have Disney Lorcana product for sale at big box stores.

image 1
Source: dit_le_renard on Reddit.

Lorcana: The First Chapter starter decks and booster packs were spotted at a South Carolina Walmart store. The booster packs (MSRP $5.99) were being sold for $7, and the starter decks (MSRP $16.99) were being sold for $20 each.

In addition to releasing several days before the approved September 1 date, the image from BSquared24 on X above shows the gift set price below the product as $34.98 in Ruston, Louisiana. This is a markup from the MSRP of $29.99.

Do you think this strategy will help ease some of the supply issues buyers and sellers are facing? Let us know in the comments.

Learn to play this exciting new game with us in the video above, or, if you’re interested in following the narrative of the game, Ravensburger has released a teaser video for the story.
