GOOD NEWS! A Hotel Transportation Perk Has RETURNED in Disney World

One thing that we LOVE about Disney World is how many modes of transportation you can use to get around the resort.

Disney Springs

You’ve got good old reliable Disney buses, the fun Monorail, and the thrilling Skyliner. But one transportation option some guests miss out on is the boats, which are probably the most relaxing form of Disney transportation. Well, a boat transportation option between Disney Springs and some Disney hotels was temporarily suspended, but we’re happy to report that it’s officially back!

Earlier this month, the Sassagoula River Cruise Boats were temporarily suspended to and from Disney Springs. These boats run between the Springs and a few different Disney hotels, including Disney’s Old Key West Resort, Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — Riverside, and Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter. A Cast Member informed us that the boats would be closed due to some work being done on a retaining wall by a bridge.

Boats

As of today, August 31st, those boats are back in service. We stopped by today and the sign at the edge of the pier notifying guests of the closure was gone.

No signage

We also noticed that boats were running to and from the pier regularly throughout the day. So this hotel transportation perk is officially back up and running. If you’ve never used it, we highly recommend it! It’s a great way to visit several Disney World hotels from Disney Springs, but it’s also a great way to get to Disney Springs from those hotels. It’s relaxing and scenic — what more could you want?

Boats are running again

Want to know more about Disney World transportation? We have a whole page dedicated to it! We know it can get confusing because there are often a lot of ways to get around the resort, so we hope that clears it up for you!

There’s a NEW Sundae at Ghirardelli in Disney World, and It’ll Make You Forget All About PSL

We’re just going to ignore the hot weather and tell y’all that it’s fall (just work with us here).

Ghirardelli Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop

Halloween is already EVERYWHERE in Disney World and Disneyland. We’ve been eating spooky treats (and we have NO regrets). We’ve shamelessly bought Halloween merchandise. Pumpkin Spice is BACK at Starbucks. Yes, the world is healing and the flavors of fall are here. Although we LOVE our pumpkin spice, there’s another flavor that also feels very autumnal.

That flavor is APPLE, and Ghirardelli in both Disney Springs and Disney California Adventure are introducing a brand-new sundae featuring it! It’s the Caramel Apple Hot Fudge Sundae, and it’s made with handmade milk hot fudge, apple filling, a sprinkle of cinnamon, and a milk chocolate caramel apple square.

©Ghirardelli

This is WAY easier to eat than a Disney caramel apple, right? But you get the same flavors, so it’s all good! It’s also perfect for the hot fall days — you can cool down and at least PRETEND fall has arrived.

Halloween caramel apples

The new sundae is available RIGHT NOW, but it’s only here while supplies last, so better check it out sooner rather than later. It’s just another great fall flavor you can enjoy in both Disney World and Disneyland.

Cringey Things People Do IN PUBLIC in Disney World

Disney World is the most magical place on earth, right?

Magic Kingdom

Your trip should be filled with laughter, fun, and maybe even a few happy tears. However, we have seen some things at Disney World, that we wish we could unsee! Since we’re in Disney World every day, we thought we would share the cringest things we’ve seen people do at Disney World.

Being Rude to Cast Members

Unfortunately, we’ve seen guests be rude to Cast Members — this is not okay. Cast Members work hard, and they often are juggling many things at once. They are there to keep guests safe and help everyone have a great vacation. Sometimes guests might not understand why they are being asked to do something or why they cannot do something — this can cause frustration.

Cast Members

When interacting with Cast Members, be kind. They do a lot for guests and they really are the magic of Disney World. We’ve seen them create some pretty great magical moments for guests. So on your next trip, be sure to thank them for all they do.

We love Cast Members

Dipping Cooling Towels

We get it — it’s hot in Disney World, especially in the summer. We recommend packing some cooling towels with you for your trip. These can help keep you cool and allow you to be hands-free. However, our reporters have recently witnessed something disgusting happening.

The Fountains in France

Cooling towels are activated by getting them wet, and some guests have started dunking their towels in public fountains around Disney World. We have seen guests take their towel, which is covered in sweat, and put them into fountains around the parks. GROSS! Instead, use water from the restroom sinks.

Cinderella’s fountain

Leaving A Mess

When you’re eating at a quick service location, you have the responsibility of cleaning up after yourself. This means you should be throwing away all trash items and picking up items around you. Unlike a table service restaurant, you will need to clean up after yourself. We have seen some guests just leave their trash, trays, and dishes lying on the table for someone else to clean up.

The Lunching Pad

PDA

There’s nothing more awkward than being behind that couple in line that is just all over each other. We get it, you’re in love, but be aware of others around you.

Mickey and Minnie

Fighting

For Disney to be the most magical place on earth, sometimes guests miss that memo. We’ve seen our fair share of fighting happening in families on vacation. We’ve seen parents yell at kids, kids yelling at each other, and couples fighting. Disney World can be stressful if you let it be. Take a breath and remember you’re on vacation. You want to leave with good memories, not bad ones.

EPCOT

Yelling On Rides

For whatever reason, we’ve been on rides where there’s a guest obnoxiously yelling or talking loudly. On Tower of Terror, we’ve had guests scream at the top of their lungs. It’s not a fun “wooooh” scream, it’s like from a horror film.

Tower of Terror

We’ve also seen guests talk pretty loudly on rides. Everyone wants to enjoy the ride and take it all in. That can be hard to do with others being a distraction.

Pirates of the Caribbean

Using Flash Photography

On dark rides, like the Haunted Mansion, guests are specifically told not to use flash photography. Yet, we often see people still using it. This can ruin the ride for others and could cause the ride to actually temporarily pause. This is also true during some shows where the lighting is darker. At the Festival of the Lion King, guests are asked not to video with their flash on as it is dangerous to performers. Just be cautious of using your flash and follow any directions given.

Haunted Mansion

Resellers

Unfortunately, resellers have become a big issue at Disney parks. When a new collection drops, we can often find resellers purchasing multiple items for the sole purpose of reselling them online at a markup. This takes away from other guests who want to purchase items for themselves. Disney has started to limit the amount of items someone can buy, which can help.

2023 Figment Popcorn Bucket

Reciting The Lines

We promise that no one needs to hear you recite out loud the pre-show to Rock n Rollercoaster. For some guests, this is their first time riding the attraction or seeing the show, and having someone else talking over the recordings can be distracting. It’s great you’ve been to Disney often or maybe this is your favorite ride. Just be cautious of how loud you are and be courteous to others.

Rock ‘n Roller Coaster

In the spirit of all of these, be kind and be aware of the people around you. For more Disney tips, be sure to follow us at DFB.

HUGE Change for Disney Dining Plan Announced — We’re Answering Your Burning Questions

The Disney Dining Plan is officially returning in 2024, and if you’re planning a Disney World trip for next year, you might have some questions about whether or not it’s right for you.

Cinderella Castle

The Dining Plan has gone through some updates and you can read more about those here, but we recently spotted another change that wasn’t an option for this service before. It can be a lot to keep up with, but we’re answering some burning questions you might have!

As a bit of a refresher, the Disney Dining Plan is a pre-purchased service that is added onto a Disney Vacation Package. By the time you get to Disney World, all your meals are already paid for, so you just head to a restaurant on the approved list, enjoy your meal, and scan your card.

Dining at Shiki-Sai

Recently, though, we noticed that ticketless packages with Dining Plans are now available to book for stays at Disney World beginning January 9th, 2024. Disney shared with travel agents that the change would accommodate guests who have booked back-to-back reservations at different Disney Resort Hotels by allowing them to book a room and Dining Plan without having to add tickets to the package.

Our Spread from 50s Prime Time Cafe

We weren’t totally sure how this would work, so we reached out to our friends at Small World Vacations and got some answers.

Does this remove the ticket requirement entirely?

Yes. You can now add dining to a resort stay without tickets. This is helpful for guests who want to dine but already have a ticket purchased previously, parties where some of the guests have an [Annual Pass] and the others have to buy their tickets directly through Disney, or guests who are just looking to stay at the resorts and not visit the parks.

Cosmic Ray’s eats

In the past, in addition to needing reservations for a Disney World hotel to use the Dining Plan, guests also needed tickets to the parks — or a full Disney World Vacation Package. When the plan rolls out in early 2024, tickets won’t be required at all.

The BEST Table Service Restaurants for the Dining Plan 2024

Does this only apply to back-to-back hotel stays at different hotels where there is a ticket purchase on at least one of the hotel stays?

No. You can book a ticketless package as a standalone.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

When this update was first reported, Disney shared that this change was only for people who booked split stays at two different Disney World hotels, which meant that tickets wouldn’t be required to book the Dining Plan for the second hotel stay. But, this change doesn’t only apply to that second stay since tickets are no longer required at all.

The BEST Counter Service Restaurants for the Dining Plan in 2024

Do guests need to have tickets for all of the nights of the split hotel stays combined or just some?

Tickets aren’t required at all.

Disney World Theme Park Ticket Cards

We know, we know — we’ve said it three times at this point. There’s no need to worry about who needs tickets for which days and whether or not everyone in your party will qualify for the Disney Dining Plan. As long as you’re staying at a qualifying Disney World hotel, you can book it!

The BEST Values for the Disney Dining Plan, Period.

Thanks to our friends at Small World Vacations for answering some of our questions. If you’re looking for help booking your 2024 Disney World trip, Small World Vacations can help answer your questions and even book your entire trip for you!

If you’re considering purchasing the Dining Plan on your next vacation, then you may want to check our DFB GuideIt’s got full chapters on whether the Dining Plan is worth the cost, how to get the most out of the Dining Plan, and recommendations for those using the Dining Plan.
