Br’er Fox and Br’er Bear to be Featured on First New Merchandise Item in Years for Splash Mountain ‘Get Wet MAX’ at Tokyo Disneyland

Tokyo Disneyland has revealed a seasonal frame featuring Br’er Fox and Br’er Bear for the on-ride photo of Splash Mountain “Get Wet MAX!”

Splash Mountain “Get Wet MAX!” On-Ride Photo Frame

The frame features the logo for Splash Mountain “Get Wet MAX!” in the upper corner. Br’er Bear and Br’er Rabbit are at the bottom, looking up at guests as they splash down the mountain. The image will be printed on the photo.

The design was actually the on-ride photo frame a decade ago but with the regular Splash Mountain logo instead of the “Get Wet Max!” logo. There was a similar seasonal Easter frame, too, in 2017.

The usual frame features all the characters from the ride but hasn’t changed in several years.

Splash Mountain “Get Wet MAX!” is a version of the ride with a little more water than usual to help combat the hot and humid Tokyo summers. It debuted last summer and is returning from July 4 through September 6, 2023. Last year, the main change was just an extra mist machine at the ride’s climactic drop.

Summer at Tokyo Disney Resort

Tokyo Disney Resort is preparing for the summer in a few ways. In Toontown, extra water features have been installed for guests get soaked.

Tokyo Disneyland guests can also enjoy “Baymax’s Mission Cooldown” this summer. The short two-float cavalcade will roll down the parade route three times daily. In the summertime splash event, guests in certain areas of the park can expect to be soaked to the bone by water sprayed from the float, as Baymax works to keep everyone cool and happy. Splash Mountain Get Wet MAX will also return from July 4 to September 6.

Over at Tokyo DisneySea, a special harbor greeting featuring Duffy & Friends will circle Mediterranean Harbor twice daily, and a new line of Duffy merchandise will be released. As well, guests can enjoy the return of the wet course on Aquatopia for the first time since 2019.

Though not a water-based overlay, the Vacation Jamboree will not return to Country Bear Theater this summer and evidence suggests it may never return.

Splash Mountain at Tokyo Disneyland

For Tokyo Disneyland, Imagineers created a brand new Critter Country. Here it would be a sort of sub-land to Westernland (their version of Frontierland). This allowed Splash Mountain to fit in better with its surroundings.

Although the exterior of Tokyo’s Splash Mountain is similar to the one in California with its towering Chick-A-Pin Hill, the actual track layout is somewhat different. Also, the loading and unloading of the logs take place in two different locations, and these activities are located inside the mountain. In addition, the logs were re-engineered to create less of a splash due to the harsher winters and cultural differences (hence the need for the “Get Wet MAX!” summer version).

The Tokyo version also contains a two-story, counter-service restaurant, Grandma Sara’s Kitchen, deep within the mountain. That version of the attraction opened on October 1, 1992.

Josh D’Amaro Honors Retiring Oriental Land Co. CEO Toshio Kagami

Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro wrote a new Disney Parks Blog post to honor the legacy of Toshio Kagami, who is retiring as CEO of the Oriental Land Company after decades overseeing Tokyo Disney Resort.

Toshio Kagami
Toshio Kagami

“It has been an honor to work with Kagami-san,” D’Amaro wrote, “and to see his passion and dedication to the Disney brand and to building what he has called ‘a kingdom of dreams and magic.’”

Kagami was appointed director of the OLC’s Real Estate Division in 1976, six years before Tokyo Disneyland opened. By 1983, he was a Managing Director. In 1993, he was named Executive Vice President. In 1995, he became the Representative Director and President. Two decades later, in 2005, he officially became Chairman and CEO, in addition to Representative Director. Kagami was inducted as a Disney Legend in 2008.

Read D’Amaro’s full post below.

I want to acknowledge the tremendous legacy of Disney Legend Toshio Kagami, who has served as Chairman and CEO of Oriental Land Company for many years. He is transitioning the role of CEO to Yumiko Takano, while continuing in his role as Chairman of OLC.

Kagami-san began working on early plans for Tokyo Disneyland back in 1960, many years before its 1983 opening. It was a privilege to be with him and Bob Iger in Tokyo this past April to celebrate the 40th anniversary of this incredible destination – the first Disney theme park built outside of the United States.

In recent years, alongside the Disney team, Kagami-san has led the expansion of Tokyo Disneyland; the opening of Toy Story Hotel; and the development of Fantasy Springs, the eighth themed port at Tokyo DisneySea, along with Fantasy Springs Hotel that will open in spring 2024. Under his leadership, the resort has brought Disney stories to life in so many incredible ways, helping millions of guests to make lifelong memories there.

During Destination D23 last fall, I had a very special opportunity to recognize Kagami-san and acknowledge our company’s valued relationship with him. We look forward to continuing that relationship, and also to working more closely with Takano-san as she takes on the CEO role.

It has been an honor to work with Kagami-san, and to see his passion and dedication to the Disney brand and to building what he has called “a kingdom of dreams and magic.” His legacy will endure with each dream come true and every moment of magic that our Tokyo Disney Resort guests experience for generations to come.

The sipper is plastic, but resembles a glass or crystal orb in a metal carrier. The orb is translucent purple with a crystalline design. The fake metal pieces are around the top and bottom of it, with a row of rivets around the center. The button for the light effect is on the bottom. The sipper is not dishwasher or microwave safe and is not recommended for children under 3 years old.

The top of the orb with the straw and handle pops off, revealing the acid spitter inside. These blue and purple creatures with yellow eyes were first introduced in Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge, the Oculus Quest VR game. These aggressive creatures can be found in the Batuu Wilds. Bartender Seezelslak uses their tails in a drink that also includes terateak pods and demlin scales.

This is a different version of the previous orb sipper, which was blue and gold and contained a paddy frog.
