The Official Disney Rule That Has EVERYONE Talking About Rubber Ducks Right Now

Being on a Disney Cruise is a whole OTHER kind of vacation. Seriously — it’s NOTHING like visiting Disney World and Disneyland.

This is one POPULAR Disney Cruise Line duck

That’s because a Disney Cruise is a completely different kind of vacation, and it’s one where guests tend to be more social because they’re seeing the same people for the length of their cruise. Some might say that guests are even friendlier on a cruise, and it certainly seems like they’re ready and willing to gift each other little gifts, including hidden rubber ducks. There’s just one problem: those hidden ducks go against Disney Cruise Line’s policy. Say what?

Okay, let’s back up for a second. So there’s a longstanding tradition on Disney Cruises where guests bring little rubber duckies to hide all over the cruise ship for other guests to find. This isn’t a Disney-sanctioned activity but just one of those little traditions that cruisers have created over the years.

However, it’s been recently confirmed that Disney does not condone the practice of hiding ducks in public spaces on its cruise ships. According to a recent planDisney post, “I was advised that guests cannot hide things, such as rubber ducks in staterooms or public areas on the ship.” Cast Members will actively remove any ducks that they might find.

However, there’s nothing that states that guests can’t give rubber ducks to other guests. For example, Fish Extenders are another thing on Disney Cruises. Basically, these are hanging gift bags that are hung on the “fish” or other little icons near each cabin door, usually with the names of cruisers on them. These bags are usually used as mailboxes for messages, but gifts can be left in them, including rubber ducks. Yep, Disney Cruisers have a whole set of their own traditions, and how fun is that?

That’s not the only thing Disney Cruisers do. They also decorate their cabin doors, but note Disney’s official policy on that is that you can only use magnetic signs. You can’t use tape or any other kind of adhesive on those doors. Over-the-door hangers are also prohibited.

So, if you’re planning on participating in some of these unofficial activities on Disney Cruise Line, be sure you know the rules before you get on the ship.
