Ravensburger Introducing New Disney Lorcana Format

Ravensburger will introduce a new play format called Willpower League for Disney Lorcana at PAX Unplugged this weekend. This will be the third format for Disney Lorcana, joining constructed and sealed.

New Disney Lorcana Format: Willpower League

Disney Lorcana New Format

Ravensburger hasn’t announced any specific details about Willpower League but it’s designed for big events like PAX Unplugged and players will need to win games to “hold [your] seat during the event to win prizes.”

It’s speculated Willpower League will be similar to Grand Melees in Magic: The Gathering. During one of these battle royale games, dozens of players play at once, passing turn markers around a circle. Players are only able to attack the people right next to them. As players get knocked out, turn markers are removed, and the last player standing wins.

Grand Melees aren’t played often because they are difficult and complicated, which leads us to hope that either this speculation is incorrect, or Ravensburger has modified these rules to make this format work better for Lorcana. One specific concern is that players aren’t eliminated from games of Lorcana – even in a multiplayer game, it ends when one player wins, not when all other players have lost.

More details will be announced on the official Lorcana Discord server.

PAX Unplugged will take place from December 1-3 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. There will be three promo cards for attendees who spend at least $25 at the Ravensburger booth and/or take part in Lorcana events: Four Dozen Eggs, Rapuznel – Gifted Artist, and Pinocchio – Talkative Puppet. Ravensburger will be at booth 2414 and attendees will only be able to shop there once. Only Rise of the Floodborn products will be available — not The First Chapter or the Disney100 edition.
