NEWS: Shanghai Disney Resort Closes Due to COVID-19

Various Disney parks have closed (and later reopened) over the past 2 years due to COVID-19, and now the pandemic is affecting one Disney park again.

©Shanghai Disneyland Resort

Shanghai Disney Resort has closed a few different times in the past few years due to COVID-19, but had most recently reopened on June 30th, 2022 after a closure that began in March of 2022. In late October, however, we saw that Shanghai Disney Resort was reducing some of its offerings in response to COVID-19. And now things have changed again.

According to the Shanghai Disney Resort website, “In order to follow the requirement of pandemic prevention and control, Shanghai Disney Resort, including Shanghai Disneyland, Disneytown and Wishing Star Park will be closed starting Monday, October 31, 2022, with immediate effect.”

No reopening date has been announced yet, so we’ll be on the lookout for that. Shanghai Disney has indicated that they will be providing refunds or exchanges for guests impacted during this closure.

©Disney

The Shanghai Disney Resort website then goes through specifications for ticket refunds and exchanges, how the closure impacts specific dated products and services, and how it impacts Shanghai Disneyland Annual Pass holders.

Those with questions can contact the Shanghai Disney Resort Reservation Center at 400-180-0000 (Chinese Mainland) or +86-21-3158-0000 (Other Countries/Regions). You can also send an email to [email protected].

According to CNBC, the park shut down abruptly to comply with the COVID-19 measures, and all visitors who were there at the time had to stay in the park until they obtained a negative test for COVID-19.

Social media users that the park continued to operate rides, however, for those who were stuck inside the park when it closed.

In terms of COVID-19 cases in Shanghai, there were 10 locally transmitted cases reported for October 30th. All of the individuals did not have symptoms.

Shanghai Disneyland Mickey Plush

Again, this isn’t the first time Shanghai has closed due to COVID-19 concerns. It closed earlier in 2022 for a few months due to COVID, and also closed on some occasions prior to that. We’ll keep an eye out for more details and let you know what we find.

PHOTO REPORT: Disney’s Hollywood Studios & Disney’s Animal Kingdom 10/26/22 (Fantasmic! Sign Unveiled, Theming for Roundup Rodeo BBQ, Merry Holiday Decor, & More)

Good morning from Disney’s Hollywood Studios! We have a very big day ahead of us, we’ll be hopping over to Disney’s Animal Kingdom before finishing our day at Disney Springs. Let’s get started!

IMG 4720 scaled

We started our day on Hollywood Boulevard where we noticed a very familiar icon looking slightly different. Can you spot the difference?

IMG 4605 scaled

There were plenty of people arriving at rope drop today! The holiday crowds are definitely here early.

IMG 4608 scaled

Over at The Darkroom, a new Limited Edition of 3,000 Black Spire Outpost pin features a scenic view of Batuu for $19.99.

IMG 4609 scaled
IMG 4601 scaled

A few pieces of holiday merchandise have started to arrive! This adorable holiday Star Wars Stormtrooper cookie and apron set is available at Mickey’s of Hollywood for $12.99. Looks like someone already took a bite out of that stocking.

IMG 4616 scaled

Keystone Clothiers has some fancy Star Wars wooden pencil holders. One side of this says, “your focus determines your reality,” and the other features markings such as four leaf clovers and a lightsaber with a plant. You can get one for $19.99.

IMG 4620 scaled

We loved this cute Star Wars sticky note holder! “Community and friendship” is on the front with Ewoks. Inside are a variety of sticky notes for any size project.

IMG 4621 scaled
IMG 4624 scaled

Willow is featured on this large print near the back of the shop. Take it home for $44.99.

IMG 4627 scaled

We still haven’t seen much change to the exterior of Keystone Clothiers since a piece of the building came off.

IMG 4630 scaled

As we made our way down sunny Sunset Boulevard, we stopped in at The Majestic for this very vibrant fuzzy Mickey Mouse buckle tote bag for $39.99. We actually kinda love it.

IMG 4662 scaled

Did you see that?! Are those NEW Fantasmic! graphics on the LED billboard? We’re so close to its return on November 3!

IMG 4679 scaled

After a quick stop at Tower of Terror, we stopped in at Tower Hotel Gifts to check out some of the spooky new apparel that just dropped in!

IMG 4687 scaled

The new pieces include new shirts, a raglan pullover, and revamped bellhop hat.

IMG 4695 scaled
IMG 4704 scaled
IMG 4643 scaled

In Toy Story Land, Roundup Rodeo BBQ is coming along quickly, with vibrant new theming added to the large entrance sign.

IMG 4730 scaled

Jessie’s Trading Post at the exit of Toy Story Mania had some fun new holiday items, including a Pixar Disney Tails bandana set featuring the Toy Story aliens and holiday trimmings for $24.99.

IMG 4735 scaled

There is also a candy cane-striped Disney Tails pet shirt with many of our favorite Pixar characters. I spy a very cute and candy-coated Wall-E. The shirt is $24.99.

IMG 4749 scaled

It was time to make our way over to Disney’s Animal Kingdom! New entrance signs are positioned near the tapstiles at the front. While these didn’t have any Annual Passholder signs like EPCOT and Magic Kingdom, we assume they will be for the same reason or for events.

IMG 4747 scaled
IMG 4753 scaled

What’s this?! Holiday decor has arrived at the park! Very merry animals line the exterior of the shops, including Discovery Trading co and Island Mercantile.

IMG 4778 scaled

The large ornate birds can be seen on the opposite of Riverside Depot at Island Mercantile. They look like glass.

IMG 4765 scaled

A colorful new youth blue Mickey Mouse icon shirt with Donald, Goofy, and Mickey is lighting up Discovery Trading Co. for $34.99.

IMG 4768 scaled

For adults, there is an airbrush-style Dumbo shirt featuring Timothy and the circus underneath. This shirt is $36.99.

IMG 4761 scaled

A plethora of new Mickey Mouse ear hat keychains are at Riverside Depot. These keychains feature different names and sayings so you can find the one perfect for you. These keychains are $11.99.

IMG 4760 scaled
IMG 4790 scaled

A fun new 50th anniversary Vault Collection reversible map bucket hat is available at Island Mercantile. The map is slightly different than the matching Spirit Jersey and bucket hat we had previously found.

IMG 4795 scaled

Find out more about the hat here!

IMG 4807 scaled

A few new pieces of Turning Red merchandise are at Island Mercantile also.

IMG 4812 scaled

The new pieces include a vibrant youth shirt and jean overall skirt set for $49.99, a clear crossbody bag with all the essentials on the front for $34.99, and pink fuzzy zip-up jacket for youths for $49.99.

IMG 4817 scaled
IMG 4839 scaled

New Black Panther apparel has also sprung up inside Mombasa Marketplace. Black and purple Wakanda-inspired shirts for youths featuring the mask of the Black Panther and “Wakanda forever” for $29.99 each.

IMG 4844 scaled
IMG 4852 scaled

A zip-up jacket for adults is also on the shelves. It’s slightly more vibrant than the youth apparel and features a purple medallion on the zipper for $69.99.

IMG 4859 scaled

A small purple, orange, and off-black Black Panther logo bag is available next to some of the older Wakanda merchandise for $24.99.

IMG 4863 scaled

National Geographic has taken over another shop! Find some super cool apparel in Ziwani Traders. There is another location to find National Geographic merchandise in Disney Springs.

IMG 4871 scaled

As we were walking from Africa to Asia, we saw more holiday decor strung from up above near Feathered Friends in Flight.

IMG 4874 scaled

Vibrant lanterns line the trees with purples, oranges, blues, and greens.

IMG 4891 scaled

In Dinoland, an ice cream cart and benches have taken over the area where Dino Diner used to be.

IMG 4894 scaled

More benches have also been added to the seating area that replaced Primeval Whirl.

IMG 4905 scaled

At Windtraders in Pandora- The World of Avatar, a new light-up Woodsprite headband lights up and glows in the dark for $39.99. We can only imagine how cool this headband looks at night!

IMG 4928 scaled

It was time to hop again! We made our way over to Disney Springs for some shopping! It looks as though the Lime Garage fountain is finally receiving some repairs. Scrim surrounds the fountain after a large chunk of it broke off not too long ago.

IMG 4923 scaled

At Ever After, a lovely new Princess Jasmine Baublebar necklace features a lamp, gold coin, and gem. You can grab one for $55.

IMG 4932 scaled

More new ears have hit World or Disney. These sparkling 50th anniversary gemstone ears are available for $34.99. They have a lot of gems and a satin gold bow front and center.

IMG 4947 scaled

Does your princess love being creative? A new princess zip-up art and stationary kit is in the youth section for $24.99. It features markers, glue sticks, pencils, and more for tons of fun.

IMG 4952 scaled

Are they a more stylish princess? Pink hearts and crowns adorn this small rolling luggage for $49.99.

IMG 4957 scaled

…Or maybe they like playing dress-up! There are quite a few new Princess costumes that have arrived just in time for Halloween. Aurora, Belle, Anna, Elsa, and Tiana have all new sparkling outfits!

IMG 4961 scaled
IMG 4965 scaled

Each costume features the head of the princess in question. Anna and Elsa’s costumes have tear-away velcro capes in case you like to go sans-capes like Edna Mode.

IMG 4976 scaled
IMG 4981 scaled

Not a costume, but just as cute! Princess Tiana adorns this embellished shirt and tutu set and green tutu set for youths for $44.99.

IMG 4985 scaled

It’s showtime! Mickey Mouse & Jose are on the newest 50th anniversary Funko Pop set for $29.99.

IMG 4994 scaled

Look at how cute this sleepy Mickey Mouse is on this fuzzy youth pillow and pajama set. These sets have a fluffy pillow that comes with them that is perfect for sleepovers or travel. This set is $44.99.

IMG 4995 scaled
IMG 4999 scaled

Stitch is a Classic! This shirt for adults gives Stitch a shoutout since ’02. You can find this shirt in the t-shirt section near the wall of shirts for $24.99.

IMG 5008 scaled

Wakanda Forever! You can be vibrant or subtle on this Black Panther reversible bucket hat for $29.99. We found this by the main entrance to World of Disney.

IMG 5011 scaled
IMG 5013 scaled

In the Star Wars section of World of Disney, C3-PO and R2-D2 are the “Greatest in the galaxy” on this beige shirt for $36.99. BB-8 is on the bottom, rolling into the frame!

IMG 5018 scaled

Darth Vader is walking across this shirt like he has somewhere to be. “VADER” reads in large letters along one of the sleeves for $39.99.

IMG 5024 scaled

At Marketplace Co-Op, there are a bunch of new EPCOT 40 customizable phone cases at the MaDe kiosk in the D-Tech section. See them all here.

IMG 5028 scaled

Hope you’re still with us, we’re not done yet!

IMG 5030 scaled

Grogu is taking over Halloween in the cutest way yet! Catch him peeking over his trick-or-treat bag on this ornament for $19.99 or on this “Little tricks, big treats!” magnet for $14.99 at Marketplace Co-Op near the entrance.

IMG 5033 scaled

Look at this life-size Iron Man! We found him posted up in the MARVEL section near the back of the shop. While the cast member informed us he is not for sale, he does make a cool photo op!

IMG 5041 scaled

Star Wars Trading Post has a new youth villains shirt if that’s more your style. Darth Vader, Darth Maul, and Kylo Ren are on another “greatest in the galaxy” collection shirt for $29.99.

IMG 5049 scaled

“Who put the glad in gladiator? Her-cu-les!” He definitely does on this 25th anniversary retro-style pullover at DisneyStyle for $59.99.

IMG 5055 scaled

Ever wanted to learn how to draw Marvel characters? This Learn to Draw Marvel Avengers notebook is at Marvel Superhero Headquarters on the West Side for $24.99.

IMG 5059 scaled

Finally! We struck gold on our last stop of the day, literally! Thanos Infinity Gauntlets have been out of stock at EPCOT for quite some time, but we found them today hiding in the back of the shop! What a way to end the day.

PHEW! That was a big day, thanks for following along! Time to go rest our feet for the next big park day ahead of us.

  • Thursday, November 3, 2022: 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Friday, November 4, 2022: 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, November 5, 2022: 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Things are going to run a little differently this year, as rather than waiting in a standby line, you can access the first day of the runDisney Merchandise Shop from the comfort of your resort or home by joining our virtual queue! The virtual queue will be the only way to access the shop on the Expo’s first day. For more information on the virtual queue process, please visit here.
