Shanghai Disney Resort has closed a few different times in the past few years due to COVID-19, but had most recently reopened on June 30th, 2022 after a closure that began in March of 2022. In late October, however, we saw that Shanghai Disney Resort was reducing some of its offerings in response to COVID-19. And now things have changed again.

According to the Shanghai Disney Resort website, “In order to follow the requirement of pandemic prevention and control, Shanghai Disney Resort, including Shanghai Disneyland, Disneytown and Wishing Star Park will be closed starting Monday, October 31, 2022, with immediate effect.”

No reopening date has been announced yet, so we’ll be on the lookout for that. Shanghai Disney has indicated that they will be providing refunds or exchanges for guests impacted during this closure.

The Shanghai Disney Resort website then goes through specifications for ticket refunds and exchanges, how the closure impacts specific dated products and services, and how it impacts Shanghai Disneyland Annual Pass holders.

According to CNBC, the park shut down abruptly to comply with the COVID-19 measures, and all visitors who were there at the time had to stay in the park until they obtained a negative test for COVID-19.

Social media users that the park continued to operate rides, however, for those who were stuck inside the park when it closed.

In terms of COVID-19 cases in Shanghai, there were 10 locally transmitted cases reported for October 30th. All of the individuals did not have symptoms.

Again, this isn’t the first time Shanghai has closed due to COVID-19 concerns. It closed earlier in 2022 for a few months due to COVID, and also closed on some occasions prior to that. We’ll keep an eye out for more details and let you know what we find.
