Disney World Is Changing and These 12 Construction Updates Prove It

There is so much to see and do in Disney World on a daily basis!

Welcome to Disney World!

But, things are always changing, so it’s important to stay updated on all the things that might impact your Disney trip — like construction. From refurbishments to brand new dining locations and more, let’s take a look at all the construction updates from Disney World this week!

Magic Kingdom

TRON: Lightcycle Run

From what we can see, it looks like the canopy is almost fully complete over at TRON!

Looks like the canopy is almost complete

Not only that, but the walkway where guests will be able to view Lightcycles racing past their heads looks pretty polished up.

We can’t wait!

Hopefully, this means we’re getting closer to an opening date for this attraction, so stay tuned for updates!

Here’s Everything You Need to Know About the Tron Ride

Walt Disney World Railroad

The beloved steam train is still under refurbishment due to TRON construction, but Disney has hinted that we will be able to catch a ride soon!

We’ll be chugging along through that tunnel soon

Don’t forget to check the My Disney Experience app on the day of your trip to stay up to date!

EPCOT

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

We got a HUGE update for this upcoming attraction this week — it’s opening on May 27th, 2022! And on our daily monorail ride to check on the construction progress, we noticed some extraterrestrial-looking designs on the ground in front of the Nova Corps Starblaster.

Can you see it?!

Will you be heading to EPCOT to help the Guardians save the Galaxy… again?

Connections Cafe and Eatery

We’re still waiting on an official opening date for Connections Cafe and Eatery, and for now, it looks like most of the work is taking place in the interior of the restaurant. We did get a peek at some lights the other day!

The lights are on but no one is home

Be sure to stay tuned for an announcement on when we’ll be able to visit this new dining location!

Moana: Journey of Water

Some cranes have moved over into the future home of this water-based attraction. It looks like some larger structural elements are being added, although we can’t quite tell what is being built over here.

BIG things are happening

Disney hasn’t shared an opening timeline for this attraction just yet, so for now, we are patiently waiting.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Toy Story Mania Gift Shop

There’s a new exit pathway once you finish a little Midway Mania, as construction continues on the new gift shop location.

The new exit path for Toy Story Mania

We think this might be the new home of Jessie’s Trading Post, but Disney has yet to confirm anything!

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Expedition Everest

If you were hoping to ride Expedition Everest on your upcoming trip, you MIGHT be out of luck. This ride has been closed for refurbishment since January 2022.

We’ll meet again soon!

Disney originally stated it would be opening back up in mid-April, but now that language has been removed from the website. We chatted with a Cast Member who indicated the ride was on the refurbishment calendar for the rest of April, but was not listed on the calendar for May!

Restaurantosaurus

We thought we were done with construction over at this Animal Kingdom restaurant, but we noticed some gates were up blocking a ramp on the left side of the dino dining spot.

We’ll keep an eye on this!

We’re not sure what’s going on here, but we’ll keep an eye out for more updates.

Disney Resorts

Grand Floridian

Construction is well underway on the new DVC Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort!

The Big Pine Key building is under construction

The Big Pine Key building is being transformed into 200 brand-new studio villas.

Art of Animation

The Righteous Reef Playground is still closed for refurbishment at this animation-themed resort.

Righteous Reef is still closed

Guests can still go for a swim at one of the multiple pools on this hotel property!

Polynesian

Did you hear about the expansion planned for this resort?! That’s right, even more DVC Villas are being added to Disney World. It looks like construction might have already begun, as several areas are now blocked off from guests.

Pardon the Pixie Dust!

Disney projects the expansion to be finished in late 2024, but we’ll be checking in on the progress.
