All the Construction CHANGES at EPCOT’s New ‘Moana’ Attraction

Big changes are happening in EPCOT…almost every week!

EPCOT

Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana and the rest of the EPCOT transformation are scheduled to open in late 2023, and the construction countdown is ON! Every few days, we notice some big updates with the ongoing projects, and today we’re sharing all the changes that have happened with the upcoming Moana attraction and the EPCOT transformation in the past few weeks. Let’s go!

Let’s start out with the most anticipated part of the updates…Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana. The upcoming attraction’s construction is well underway, with many rock structures popping up throughout the area to form a visible path.

This attraction will be a walk-through path where guests can interact with various water elements. It seems like Disney Imagineers and construction crews are currently working their way through repainting the “rocks.” They’ve gone from gray to shades of brown recently.

You can see the new rockwork colors.

There’s a lot of scaffolding in the area right now as elements of the attraction go more vertical. We’re interested to see how tall it all ends up being.

In the less developed areas of the construction zone, we’re starting to see crews moving some dirt around to prepare for the upcoming phases. More materials have arrived for these areas as well.

And more progress is being made on the future home of CommuniCore Plaza and CommuniCore Hall. There’s a vertical structure near the World Showcase side of the construction zone that looks to be a part of this project.

Things are moving much slower on the east side of World Celebration, but construction crews were seen prepping the land for some additions recently. This will likely be where some of the World Celebration gardens will be located. We can’t wait to see them all lit up at night!

Not as much happening over here.

Following along with some other projects at the front of EPCOT, the area next to Guest Relations and the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind show building is still under slow construction. Disney hasn’t clearly indicated what the plans for this area are, but before it was roped off, it was a pathway that led over to World Discovery. We hope it reopens soon to offer a shortcut by the new coaster.

What’s going on here?

And last but not least, Cool Wash by Test Track has been blocked off for the past few weeks. When riding the monorail, it’s easy to see that the former drink station has been completely gutted. We’re interested to see what happens next here.
