Things continue to change when it comes to the COVID-19 situation.

Mask requirements have changed on places like planes and at Disney World, testing requirements for certain cruise lines have been updated, and hospitalizations in places like Florida have even increased. Now, there has been a big change when it comes to what travel destinations are considered “high” risk for COVID-19.

The CDC moved up five new destinations to the “high” risk category for COVID-19 — Bahamas, Belize, Eswatini, Montserrat, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, according to CNN. These countries are all now in the Level 3 category, which is the “high” risk category and the top category at this time. Level 2 is considered “moderate” risk and Level 1 is “low” risk.

Level 3 now applies to countries that have had more than 100 cases per 100,000 residents in the past 28 days. Many countries have been at level 3 for a while now. As of May 23rd, 2022, 115 destinations are at Level 3, which is about half of the places monitored by the CDC, according to CNN.

The following European locations are at Level 3 right now: France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Other countries in the Level 3 category include Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, Malaysia, South Korea, and Thailand.

The CDC advises people to get up-to-date on their COVID-19 vaccines before going to a Level 3 destination, meaning you have the full initial vaccinations and any boosters you are eligible for.

There were also 3 new places moved into Level 2: COVID-19 Moderate recently: Jamaica, Kuwait, and Mongolia. Level 2 means there are 50 to 100 cases per 100,000 residents in the past 28 days. Kuwait actually just moved down from Level 3, while Jamaica and Mongolia moved up from Level 1. Fewer than 20 places are in the Level 2 category at this time, according to CNN.
