The Walt Disney Company is no stranger to lawsuits.
Disneyland
The company is currently being sued over its partnership with Fox and Warner Bros. to create a new sports streaming service, a woman is suing the company due to alleged injuries sustained on a waterslide on Disney property, and the company has even faced a lawsuit from women who work for the company accusing it of pay disparity. This is just one of dozens of lawsuits the company is facing. Well, Disney is now facing a NEW lawsuit from Disneyland maintenance workers.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a class action lawsuit has been filed against Disney by maintenance workers for allegedly violating labor laws, as well as underpaying maintenance staff at Disneyland hotels. The lawsuit claims that Disney forced maintenance workers to pay for their own tools while also failing to pay them a required double minimum wage and proper overtime. As a result, the workers are requesting at least $1 million in back pay.

Assistant maintenance engineer Charlie Torres filed the proposed class action lawsuit that would represent more than 115 current and former Disneyland employees. The complaint also accuses Disney of failing to provide workers with proper rest and meal periods, as well as failing to provide accurate wage statements.

“Mr. Torres and so many others are told to cover the expense of tools used on behalf of Disney who flouts the law and refuses to pay its workers what they’re due,” said Ron Zambrano, a lawyer for the proposed class action lawsuit, in a statement. “Disney is a massive company. They know the law.”
Disney has not yet responded to the lawsuit or made any statements about it, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for updates.
