I Can’t Stop Thinking About This Super Embarrassing Experience in Disney World, and Now You Have To Know About It, Too

Listen, while Disney World is a magical place, it’s still a public place, which means some embarrassing things can happen.

Magic Kingdom

Our readers have shared their nightmare Disney situations with us before, and we’ve been in a lot of the same embarrassing situations that you guys have found yourselves in. But it’s been a while since we’ve shared some of our own personal stories, so here are some *lovely* embarrassing stories from our team to give you a laugh.

AJ just made a video about some mistakes she made in Disney World, and you can watch it right here!

Sometimes Audience Participation Isn’t Always Wanted

Over at Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor in Magic Kingdom, there’s a lot of audience participation that goes into the show, especially if you’re seeing the Halloween or Christmas overlays that happen during the park’s special after-hours events. The show will randomly select guests to participate, which is how one of our team members found herself red in the face and all eyes on her.

Monster’s Inc. Laugh Floor

During the holiday overlay one year, she was asked to talk about the town she lives in and describe it so the monsters could sing a song about it. You know when someone asks you a question you know the answer to, but under pressure the answer flies out of your brain? That was a bit of what it was like for our team member!

TRON is Confusing, Okay?

TRON Lightcycle / Run is Disney World’s newest ride, located in Magic Kingdom, and while the ride vehicles are super cool (you sit on them in a leaning forward, like you’re riding a motorcycle), they’re a little confusing. And one of our own found herself a little confused getting on the ride for the first time.

TRON Lightcycle / Run

To keep it short, she tried to get on the Lightcycle backwards. When she realized it wasn’t working well, a Cast Member instructed her to turn around, asking her, “How did you think you were going to grab the handle bars?” Telling us the story, she said, “I DIDN’T think! Clearly!”

Always. Look. Where. You. Sit.

This next story happened to one of our writer’s boyfriends, but we’re still counting it. When he went to Disney World for the first time, he wore light-colored shorts and just happened to sit on melted ice cream…brown ice cream.

Mickey Bar!

The worst part is, they didn’t notice for THREE HOURS! The moral of the story? Always look before you sit down!

Roller Coasters in Rain? Maybe Not A Great Idea.

If there’s no lightning in the area, outdoor rides will stay open in the rain. In this case, you may get to ride a roller coaster like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in the rain! As cool as that sounds, beware.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

One of our writers and his wife decided to ride Big Thunder Mountain in the pouring rain, because why not? Well, neither of them can tell you what the ride looks like, because the rain was so heavy, it was PAINFUL hitting them as they rode! So they wrapped their hoods around their faces to protect themselves and just held on. He says that after that, his wife wasn’t too happy with him the rest of the day.

Splash Mountain Gets You REALLY Soaked (Don’t Say We Didn’t Warn You)

That same writer had a different story for us, this time over at Splash Mountain in Disneyland when it was open (we figured we’d include it because it could have happened in Disney World just as easily!).

Disneyland Splash Mountain on Final Day of Operation

On a hot day, our writer got in line for Splash Mountain and was seated in the front row. Needless to say, he got SO soaked, that his entire outfit was ruined (and we mean ENTIRE outfit😳). He headed over to the Adventureland Bazaar and had to buy an entire new outfit — flip flops that consistently slid off his feet for the rest of the day, Tiki-themed shorts that ended up being too big, and an expensive sweatshirt (that he says he still wears, so not a total loss). In his words, “I looked like an idiot who thought I was at the beach the rest of the day.”

Bananas in Bag? BAD IDEA.

This last story also takes place in Disneyland, but in the Haunted Mansion line, so again, it could just as easily happen in Disneyland.

Haunted Mansion in Disneyland

At the time, our writer was 17 and visiting Disneyland for the first time. She had done meticulous planning, and knew that bringing snacks into the park was a good idea. Wanting to be a little healthy, she had grabbed a banana from the hotel breakfast and stuck it in her bag (see where this is going?). Well, in the Haunted Mansion line, she went to put her water bottle back in her bag, not thinking, and SMUSH. There goes the banana, all over the inside of her bag. So she rode the whole attraction knowing there was a gross smushed banana in her bag, which made the ride slightly less enjoyable.

The embarrassment will pass, and soon it’ll become a funny memory that you and your family can laugh at together. As always, stay tuned to DFB for all the latest Disney stories, news, and more!
