Disney has been keeping us on our toes with major news updates lately!
Ariel in the Festival of Fantasy Parade at Magic Kingdom
We learned that Moana 2 will be premiering this November, along with plenty of updates about other Disney sequels. Back in December 2023, Disney shared that a NEW Little Mermaid stage show would be coming to Hollywood Studios, and now we’ve got even more news to share from under the sea (see what we did there?)!
Disney Legend and actress Jodi Benson recently teased that she’s working on a “new surprise project” on her Instagram page! And, the post appears to show that she’s working on something to do with The Little Mermaid — perhaps some more voiceover work? Benson originated the voice of Ariel in the 1989 Disney animated classic.

While we don’t know for sure, it’s possible that this could have something to do with the new Little Mermaid stage show coming to Hollywood Studios in Disney World. It’s not likely that Benson will be involved with the live show, but maybe Disney has recruited her to provide Ariel’s classic voice for some show elements.

“The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” is a reimagining of the stage show “Voyage of the Little Mermaid,” which hasn’t opened since the parks closed in 2020. The theater has been left sitting empty for years now, but Disney is finally ready to put another live-action show back on the stage in fall 2024!
