Watch out! If you’re not prepared, you might make this NEW mistake the next time you visit Magic Kingdom in Disney World.

Magic Kingdom

We’re not talking about forgetting to Mobile Order your lunch or rope dropping the wrong ride or even skipping the plastic cheese when you get your corn dog nuggets. The NEW Mistake

Disney is known for impeccable theming and impressive immersion in its parks, but it seems like they might’ve gone a little too far with the newest ride coming to Frontierland. The problem? People seem to think that the new Tiana’s Bayou Adventure ride is actually a restaurant!

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

We’re in Magic Kingdom just about every single day, and we can’t tell you how many times we overhear people talking about the “new restaurant,” wondering what food will be served there, and getting excited about trying the eats once it opens. Only…it’s not a restaurant at all. 😬

Construction on the new ride

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is the newest ride coming to Magic Kingdom, taking over the area where Splash Mountain used to be. While the ride is being built, Disney has construction walls up all around the attraction. Those walls are decorated with signs advertising “Tiana’s Foods,” because that’s part of the premise of the ride. However, people don’t seem to realize that Tiana’s “restaurant” is actually just the setting for the ride and not a real place to eat. We can totally see how they’d make that mistake, though!

Decor on the construction walls

You see, the story behind Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is that Tiana has built an employee-owned company called Tiana’s Foods, transforming an old salt mine with the help of her mother, Naveen, Louis, and more friends. To celebrate her successful restaurant, she is hosting a Mardi Gras Party for the people of New Orleans, but she realizes that the party is “missing a key ingredient,” and she needs your help finding it!

During the ride, you join Tiana on an adventure through the bayou, meeting new friends and helping them all get ready for the party. So while the ride does have a lot to do with the restaurant, there isn’t actually a Princess and the Frog-themed restaurant coming to Frontierland…probably.

Could a New Tiana’s Restaurant Come to Magic Kingdom?

To sum up, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is a RIDE, not a restaurant. But COULD a new Princess and the Frog-themed restaurant come to Magic Kingdom anyway? We’re certainly hoping so!

Tiana’s Foods in Disney World

Tiana’s Palace — a new quick service restaurant — recently opened in New Orleans Square in Disneyland, serving tasty eats like House-filled Beignets, Gulf Shrimp and Grits, Gumbo (House OR the plant-based 7 Greens), and a Beef Po’ Boy Sandwich.

Disney hasn’t announced any new Tiana-themed restaurants for Magic Kingdom, but we’re still keeping our fingers crossed that one might be announced later on! After all, if the ride is coming to both Disneyland and Disney World, surely the restaurant could, too. Maybe it could take over Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe to be located right next to the ride?

House Gumbo

Honestly, we would even be happy with just a beignet stand! We already know that the smell of fresh beignets will be pumped into the queue for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and we can guess that we’ll be craving some of those tasty treats every time we ride.

More about Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will open in both Disneyland Park and Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in 2024. Disney previously announced it would open in “late 2024,” but their more recent language has omitted the “late” phrasing, so we’re wondering if it could open earlier rather than later.

Did Disney Quietly Change the Opening Timeline for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure?

Disney has shared that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will pick up the story of The Princess and the Frog “after the final kiss,” and visitors will “join Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure – featuring some of the powerful music from the film – as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance.”

The story of the attraction, as Disney shares, picks up during New Orleans’ Carnival season, and Tiana is hosting a Mardi Gras Party for the people of New Orleans — the community that has supported her successful restaurant. (The storyline is set about a year after the movie.)

As we mentioned before, Tiana realizes she’s missing an important ingredient, so guests join Tiana on a search for the ingredient, encountering new and old characters along the way and hearing music from the movie as well as new, original songs. Get ready for a Mardi Gras celebration in Frontierland (in Magic Kingdom) and Critter Country (in Disneyland)!

MORE New Stuff Coming to Frontierland

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure isn’t the only Frontierland update coming to Magic Kingdom! According to Disney, LOTS of changes are on the horizon, with some happening sooner than others.

“Beyond Big Thunder Mountain” Expansion

Disney has teased a HUGE Magic Kingdom expansion, repeatedly saying that something new is coming “beyond Big Thunder Mountain.” They’ve said that the expansion will be on a similar scale to additions like Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Pandora – The World of Avatar, with new attractions, restaurants, and shows. That means LOTS of changes!

Possible Land Expansion in Magic Kingdom

At the 2022 D23 Expo, Disney executives speculated about possible CocoEncanto, and Disney villains-themed lands. They tossed around ideas like a Casita attraction based on Encanto: Jennifer Lee said, “What if you could walk into the Madrigals’ casita…What if Mirabel is your guide…What if you could step up to a door and discover your own magical gift?”

Bruce Vaughn, the Chief Creative Officer for Disney Imagineering, has called these plans the “largest ever” expansion for Magic Kingdom.

Right at the end of a recent announcement about the new Country Bear Jamboree show, Disney noted, “But hold your horses, we’re not done yet. We have a lot of growth and investment planned for our theme parks in the coming years and look forward to sharing more announcements about Frontierland … so y’all come back now, ya hear?”

Is the Magic Kingdom expansion REALLY going to happen? Here’s what we know.

Country Bears Jamboree Update

On a much smaller scale, another Frontierland attraction is changing, too! Country Bear Jamboree is being completely updated.

The show will close on January 27th, 2024, for refurbishment, and it’ll reopen with the updated show this summer.

The updates are inspired by the Opry-style shows of Nashville, Tennessee. In fact, Nashville musicians are helping out with the arrangements! One of the songs we know we’ll see is a new version of “Bare Necessities” in a rockabilly style. The new show will include easter eggs throughout that nod to the previous show.
