NEWS: Haunted Mansion Has CLOSED for a Lengthy Refurbishment at Disneyland

Another popular Disney ride is in for a lengthy closure!

Disney’s been hard at work lately, refurbishing several rides and starting to reimagine the iconic entrance to the park across Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. Now that the holidays have come and passed, it’s time to put away a fan-favorite holiday ride overlay and begin work on reimaging a classic attraction.

If you’ve been enjoying the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay for the past few months at Disneyland, it’s finally time to say goodbye for the year. Haunted Mansion officially closed for refurbishment as of January 21st, 2024, and we can expect this closure to last a little longer than we’d like.

While all the holiday overlay theming will obviously be coming out of the ride during this closure, more extensive projects will also be just beginning. Disney is going to begin work on the reimagined grounds and expanded outdoor queue of the attraction.

So what changes will take place? Well, first there will be an expanded outdoor queue “to immerse guests in enhanced theming.” Disney shares, “Local legend suggests the manor known today as the Haunted Mansion was first built by a prosperous sea captain. To this day, the mansion’s staff faithfully maintains the happy haunting grounds. The expanded queue will tie into these stories and more, including new gardens inspired by Master Gracey, Madame Leota, and the one-eyed cat.”

There will be gardens in this space that’ll “feature unique elements ranging from a water fountain and gazebo to themed statuary and landscaping.” Guests will also get the chance to “see a new greenhouse where the groundskeepers for the Haunted Mansion grow their plants.”

Plus, Disney has shared that they’ll be taking this opportunity to “improve the accessibility of these areas which includes a new elevator exit from the Haunted Mansion for guests with disabilities.”

When we checked Disney’s website for more information on how long we can expect the ride to be closed for these updates, we were met with a note to check back for more updates later. For now, the calendar is showing that the ride will be closed through at least early March, but that could change.
