The original Five Nights at Freddy’s supernatural horror video game, created by Scott Cawthon, was released in 2014 and has spawned several spinoffs and sequels. The first “Five Nights at Freddy’s” film from Blumhouse hit theaters this past October. Cawthon co-wrote the script with Seth Cuddeback and director Emma Tammi. It stars Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, Mary Stuart Masterson, and Matthew Lillard.

During the development of the film in 2018, Cawthon said that there could be a sequel if the first film is successful, and Lillard revealed a year ago that he had signed a three-picture deal. The film ultimately earned $295.1 million at the box office, compared to its $20 million budget. It was met with mostly positive reviews from audiences, with an 87% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes (although only 32% from critics). Read our review.

Despite the success, in a recent interview with Collider‘s Steve Weintraub, “Five Nights at Freddy’s” executive producer Ryan Turek said a sequel hasn’t been greenlit yet.

JonnyBlox posted on X about the inclusion of “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” in Production Weekly, which confirms that the film is in pre-production. Production Weekly “continuously tracks and compiles up-to-date data on projects in various stages of development, both domestically and internationally.” Blumhouse still hasn’t officially announced the sequel and no further information is available.
