3 Times Disney Took Over The News This Week

The Walt Disney Company has been in multiple headlines this week.

Disney World

From fan sites to national news outlets, we saw “Disney” and “Bob Iger” as key words in multiple news stories this week. There’s a LOT going on, and it’s easy to get lost in the whirlwind of news and social media comments. So, we’re here to break it all down for you.

Here are three times that Disney took over the news this week.

Bob Iger Confirms 2026 Exit

We were a bit shocked in November 2022 when Bob Chapek stepped down as Disney CEO and Bob Iger stepped out of retirement to once again take on the position. We knew that Iger would’t be around as CEO forever, and that his leadership would only last a few years, but this week, Iger confirmed that he would step down from the CEO position in 2026.

He said that the process of succession is currently “robust.”

Florida Senator Prepared Bill That Could Dismantle DeSantis’s Appointed Board

Governor DeSantis is no stranger to news headlines, either, as he enacted a law that allowed him to take control over Disney’s special taxing district and appoint a brand new oversight board: The Central Florida Tourism Oversight Board.

Now, Florida Sen. Linda Stewart is preparing to file a bill that could TERMINATE the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District… as it existed before February 23rd, 2023, when DeSantis’s board officially took over. This would end the Central Florida Tourism Oversight Board as we know it as of the act’s effective date, if approved. A walk-out over committee rules derailed a vote to move the bill forward this week. Another attempt at a vote is expected next week.

Iger Yanks Ads From X (Formerly Twitter)

X CEO Elon Musk outraged media giants this week as he made an anti-semitic comment in response to a post made by another user on the platform. Disney, along with numerous other brands like Comcast/NBC Universal, Paramount Global, Warner Bros. Discovery, Apple, and Lionsgate pulled their ads from the platform.

Later, Musk responded to Iger specifically (using lots of F-bombs), and stated that these companies were killing the brand by boycotting advertisements on the site.

Whew! Of course, there was a lot more that happened this week, not just in the news, but in the parks. You can see what happened in the parks and hotels by clicking through the links below:
