Deluxe Resorts at Walt Disney World are always a great place to stay, but the prices can sometimes be insane! Even with Disney promotions, the prices can be out of reach for many families. But there’s no denying that a stay at Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort will be better than Pop Century.
We’ve talked in the past about how renting DVC points can be a great way to save money on a deluxe resort for your Walt Disney World vacation. Want to know a way to save even more money? It all depends on the time of year you choose to travel.
We all know that prices for Disney resorts vary based on the time of year. Of course, traveling over Christmas week or spring break is going to cost way more than booking the same room for the middle of January.
Well, the same applies to DVC resorts. In fact, there are sometimes as many as 7 (yeah, 7!) seasons on the DVC calendar. Here’s a look at part of the points chart for 2023 for Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. For simplicity, we’re only looking at the Deluxe Studio point requirements; the trends are the same for the 1-Bedroom and 2-Bedroom Villas.
As you can see, there are seven “travel periods” with different point requirements. As you go down the list, the points increase for the same room. Thus, Christmas week and Easter week are the most expensive at the bottom of the list, while September is the cheapest at the top of the list.
You’ll note that the month of May falls into either the second or third travel period of the year, which means the same room requires fewer points to book. This is one of several reasons that month of May is one of the ideal times to rent points.
Besides the point cost, May offers excellent availability which means it is simpler than ever to book your desired resort. September, though a bit cheaper, is often harder to book because of the allure of the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival which draws lots of DVC members to Walt Disney World.
If you are looking to travel and take advantage of picture-perfect weather, May is often your best bet. May offers some of the most delightful weather at Disney’s magical parks. Say goodbye to sweltering summer heat and hello to comfortably warm days, cool nights, and minimal rainfall. All in all, May provides the perfect climate for your enchanting adventures.
Although September offers the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival, May has its own EPCOT festival which in many ways is even better. Immerse yourself in the breathtaking beauty of the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival. Stroll through exquisite gardens, enjoy vibrant displays, and savor delightful food and drink offerings which are on par with (and sometimes even better) than the Food & Wine Festival. With blossoming gardens full of beauty, May is when EPCOT truly comes alive!
May is also a “sweet spot” for Disney crowds. Though there aren’t really any “slow” seasons any longer, May is one of the slower times of year. Fewer visitors mean shorter lines, more Lightning Lane availability, and less waiting. It’s not quite as good as having the park all to yourself, but it can be about as close as you can get while ensuring pleasant weather. Sure you could come in September and likely deal with sweltering heat, or come in January and take a chance of hitting the freezing point and morning frost, but May avoids both of the extremes.
