The new animated Disney film hit theaters on November 22. Its opening weekend box office was a low $31.7 million, making it just the latest Disney film to underperform.

“Wish” follows Asha (Ariana DeBose), an ambitious young woman who makes a wish upon a star that changes the fate of her entire kingdom. The film also stars Chris Pine as King Magnifico. It’s directed by Chris Buck (“Frozen,” “Frozen II”) and Fawn Veerasunthorn (“Raya and the Last Dragon”) from a script by Buck, Allison Moore (“Night Sky”), and Walt Disney Animation Studios Chief Creative Officer Jennifer Lee (“Frozen,” “Frozen II”). According to its directors, “Wish” features several legacy nods to films from the Walt Disney Animation Studios library, in honor of the company’s 100th anniversary.
