*NEW* Peanut Blooder Burger – $13.49
Smash burger with peanut sauce, raspberry jelly, cheddar cheese, shaved onions, jalapeño bacon, and cherry peppers on a vampire bun
This had the worst cut bun we’ve ever seen in our entire life, but we were obsessed with everything else about the burger. This is a beautiful combination of sweet, savory, and spicy.
The jalapeno bacon is delicious. The peanut butter doesn’t dominate and the touch of sweetness from the raspberry jelly compliments the entire meal. This burger was small, but mighty. This is one we would order again and again. Don’t let the idea of the Peanut Blooder Burger scare you away. It’s to die for!
Confetti Battered Cookies – $7.49
Battered and fried OREOS, dusted with powdered sugar
We tried the fried Oreos and thought they were some of the best we’ve ever had. The confetti batter was a nice touch and you can see the colorful confetti pieces around the Oreo. They come dusted with powder sugar and are soft and delicious. A real treat we wouldn’t hesitate to get again. For a DIY snack hack, get vanilla ice cream from Haagen-Dazs or gelato from Louie’s to go with them!
Cheeseburger – $12.99
The Mel’s menu offers a cheeseburger, but under no circumstances should you order one of these. This looks like it was prepared at Mel’s back in June before they closed for refurbishment. Jokes aside, it just looks like disappointment on a plate.
The burger comes with a slice of cheese and nothing else on top. Packets of ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise are available at the stand. The burger also comes with a bag of Lays chips on the side.
This cheeseburger might look awful, but it wasn’t the worst burger we’ve ever had here. It was pretty close, though. The top bun was hard, but the burger patty wasn’t too bad with a ton of ketchup. Stick with the Peanut Blooder Burger and skip this basic cheeseburger.
*NEW* Tinseltown Torment – $16.50 for souvenir cup, $12.50 for refill or 12 oz. single serve
Old Forester bourbon, cherry brandy, orange, and cranberry juices, with chocolate and cherry syrup and orange bitters
The Tinseltown Torment was one of our favorite drinks from the event. It’s a little syrupy, but it’s a fruity and sweet cocktail that we would get again.
Ghoul Juice – $16.50 for 20 oz. souvenir cup, $12.50 for souvenir refill or 12 oz. single serve
Myers’ Dark Rum, Cherry Brandy, Simple Syrup, Mango Nectar, Lime Juice, Dale DeGroff’s Pimento Bitters, and Peychaud’s Bitters
While this drink was sweet, it had a sweet mango flavor. We liked it over some of the other special cocktails available, and definitely recommend trying it for yourself!
Electric Death – $16.50 for 20 oz. souvenir cup, $12.50 for souvenir refill or 12 oz. single serve
New Amsterdam Gin, Blue Curaçao, Lime Juice, Vanilla Bean, Simple Syrup, Pineapple Juice, and Dale DeGroff’s Pimento Bitters
This is a refreshing gin drink where pineapple is the most prominent flavor. There is a hint of lime and the vanilla shows up late to make it seem creamy. The alcohol is somewhat masked by the juice, and none of us could taste the pimento bitters. There are small bits of vanilla bean visible in the drink. We all agreed that it’s a pleasant, cool, and refreshing drink.
Voodoo Brewing Co. Lacto-Kooler (5.5% ABV) – $12.25
From Voodoo Brewing Co.: “Lacto-Kooler is our flavored Berliner Weisse. We made this sour ale with lots of “green” giving the beer its unique color and flavor.”
Original Sin Crimson Chaos Cider (6% ABV) – $10
From Original Sin: “Crimson Chaos was created by marrying two cherry varieties with a melody of luscious berries. The ruby red and maroon cherries introduce a balance of earthy tartness giving great depth of flavor. The berries create bursts of zest that dance on your tongue and, when combined with the cherries, result in an unforgettable joyous punch to the palate. This fruit forward blend is smooth throughout with a subtly tartness that tingles on the finish.”
Mel’s Die-In is located at #18 on the map below, in Battery Park, across from the real Mel’s.
