However, just like many things in Disney World, there are some common misconceptions about this icon, such as that the correct name IS Cinderella Castle and NOT “Cinderella’s Castle.” But there’s more where that came from — here are 4 lies that everyone believes about Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom.

It’s at Ground Level

Contrary to what you may see with your own eyes, all of Magic Kingdom is NOT at ground level! It’s all built on top of the Utilidors, meaning that it’s technically on the second floor of the park.

Yes, there is literally a whole city underneath Magic Kingdom where Cast Members travel to and from their sections of the park, get dressed in their costumes, take their breaks, etc. The only ways to see it are to be a Cast Member or take the Keys to The Kingdom Tour.

Walt Disney is Cryogenically Frozen and Stored in Cinderella Castle

This is a rumor that has been circulating for YEARS and was started a few weeks after Walt’s death in 1966. According to PBS, a reporter for a tabloid paper claimed that he snuck into the hospital where Walt was treated near the end of his life, and that he saw Walt in a cryogenic cylinder.

The rumors have spread like wildfire for years, despite being debunked multiple times, even by Walt’s daughter Diane, who said her father had likely never heard of cryonics. Walt Disney himself didn’t help these rumors though, because according to PBS, Walt sensed his “impending demise” and asked to be recorded before his passing, where he addressed his colleagues. Walt told them what he expected of their future performance, and said he hoped to see them soon.

Cinderella Castle Can Be Taken Apart

There is also a rumor that Cinderella Castle can be taken easily dismantled and stored away safely in case of a hurricane or other high winds.

This, however, is not true. The castle is built to withstand winds of up to 90 miles per hour, but it can’t be taken apart if the weather gets bad. It has to stand its ground and bear it just like the rest of the park!

The Castle is Used For Storage

Some of our fellow writers who have been Cast Members in the past have shared with us that some guests have asked them if the castle is used for storage. As far as we know, this is NOT true!

You can find Cinderella’s Royal Table in Cinderella Castle, as well as the exclusive Cinderella Castle Suite that you can only be invited to stay in. But as far as we know, Disney doesn’t use the rest of the space for storage.
