The Alps Booth in EPCOT Went from Just Fine to Jaw-Dropping 😮

Get ready, because we’re diving into a sea of CHEESE.

2023 Booth

There are lots of food booths at this year’s EPCOT Food & Wine Festival, and several of them feature very cheesy menu items (cheese often pairs well with wine, after all). But the Alps food booth just might take the cake…er…cheese wheel? Come with us to find out whether you should include these eats and drinks on your Food & Wine Fest must-buy list.

Menu

Over at the Alps booth (which is located close to the Germany pavilion in World Showcase), you’ll find a variety of items. There are a couple of Warm Raclette Swiss Cheese dishes with various accompaniments, and there’s also a NEW Dark Chocolate Fondue dessert!

Here’s a look at the menu!

All of the drinks on the menu are returning, including the Frozen Rosé. Now that we’ve taken a look at the menu, let’s dive into the food itself!

Eats

We tried all three snacks this year!

First up, we grabbed the Warm Raclette Swiss Cheese with Alpine Ham, Baby Potatoes, Cornichons, and a Baguette for $5.75. Note that this is part of Emile’s Fromage Montage cheese crawl this year!

Last year, this dish was $5.50, which means it is slightllllly more expensive this year. In 2022, we thought it was super filling and delicious, and we especially loved the tangy crunch from the cornichons. So how does this dish hold up in 2023?

The Raclette is a Food & Wine Festival classic for a reason. Hello — it’s CHEESE! This is a hot, savory snack that feels like a warm, comforting hug. It’s a great portion size; thanks to the ham, we felt nice and full after enjoying this dish. Hot tip: pay attention as they’re preparing your food here! The chefs slice the cheese right off the wheel in front of you, so you can see the cheese melt into a gooey pile of deliciousness live and in person.

You had us at bread and cheese.

The cheese itself is mild Swiss cheese, and it’s not the most exciting flavor-wise, but it goes well with the potatoes and cornichons. We preferred the ham version of this dish to the Warm Raclette Swiss Cheese without the ham; the ham gave our snack that extra boost of flavor and texture.

Look at that HAM!

We also got the Warm Raclette Swiss Cheese with Baby Potatoes, Cornichons, and a Baguette (which is the same as the last one, just without the ham) for $5.25. This one got a 25-cent price increase this year! This dish is also part of Emile’s Fromage Montage cheese crawl, so make sure to get your stamp if you buy this one!

The cornichons were our favorite thing about this dish — as vinegar lovers, the cornichons helped to cut the cheese and potatoes with a vinegary zing.  Seriously, shout out to the cornichons! The favor helped create a nice, balanced dish. While we love melty cheese and potatoes, it’s a little bit much in the heat of the summer. That said, it’s a good dish that’s worth a try if you like cheese.

Make sure to get a hearty bite — it’s delicious!

We also grabbed the NEW plant-based Dark Chocolate Fondue with Berries, Pound Cake, and Meringues for $5.50. This booth didn’t have a dessert option last year, so it’s nice that they’ve added one for 2023.

Alert! Alert! This has the makings of a new FAVORITE of ours. This fondue is SO good. It’s made with a quality dark chocolate fondue that is not overly sweet or sugary. Instead, it’s nice and balanced and pairs with the berries, strawberries, raspberries, and poundcake perfectly. (Though we wouldn’t judge you for eating this fondue all by itself)

Oh, and let’s talk about the fact that this is PLANT-BASED dessert. Who would’ve guessed? Not us! Disney could’ve fooled us with this dish. The only part that gave away the plant-based nature of this dish was the poundcake, which had a sort of dense, floury texture. Anyway, we LOVED this dessert. It’s a winner.

Now let’s check out the drinks!

Drinks

We got the Frozen Rosé, which costs $9. (In 2022, it was also $9.) We liked the balance of dry and sweet flavors in this drink last year, and this year we felt the same! If you’ve ever had Frozen Rosé before, this one tastes the same as every other Rosé drink we’ve tried before. It’s easy to drink, light, and sweet.

Frozen Rose

We also got the Stiegl Brewery Key Lime Radler from Salzburg, Austria, for $5.50. Surprisingly, although this is a Key Lime beer, it was more floral than fruity in terms of flavor. This beer is definitely on the sweet side; it’s light and refreshing but a little too sweet for our preferences. That said, it’s not as sweet as cider, so don’t expect to drink a cider-like drink here.

Also on the menu at this spot is the Huber Vision Grüner Veltliner from Austria. You can get it for $6.

OVERALL

This booth may not be anything to write home about compared to, say, the fries at The Fry Basket or the seafood at Coastal Eats, but it’s a cheesy staple that serves reliably tasty (albeit WARM) snacks.

Look at all this FOOD!

If you’re looking for more delightfully CHEESY eats, make sure you try out the Canadian Cheddar and Bacon Soup at the Canada booth, the Smoked Corned Beef at Flavors from Fire, and the Curry-Spiced Crispy Cheese with Mango-Curry Ketchup at the India booth. All of these are part of Emile’s Fromage Montage, so if you get five of the qualifying dishes and collect stamps at each booth, you can win a free prize!
