NEWS: Alcohol Is Being Added to THREE Disneyland Restaurants

While many Disney parks are known for their bars, taverns, and lounges (or little food booths if you’re in EPCOT), there are still some places where alcohol is hard to come by. Back in the early days of Disney, Disneyland Resort and Magic Kingdom were dry parks. That’s right; there was a time when you couldn’t even get a beer in Magic Kingdom!

Today, things have changed, though, and now it seems like more alcohol is coming to a park known for its lack of alcoholic beverages. This is BIG news, so buckle up.

Disney Parks announced that this fall, THREE Disneyland restaurants will begin offering wine, beer, specialty cocktails, and other non-alcoholic beverages.

Beginning September 12th, Carnation Café, River Belle Terrace, and Café Orleans will serve alcohol. Currently, only two restaurants in Disneyland offer alcohol to Disneyland guests: Oga’s Cantina and Blue Bayou. (Note that Club 33 members can also currently get alcoholic drinks in Disneyland)

You may be wondering, “WHY no booze?!” Well, you can thank Walt Disney himself! Walt Disney was quoted by Pete Martin of the Saturday Evening Post back in the 50s, stating “No liquor, no beer, nothing. Because that brings in a rowdy element. That brings people that we don’t want and I feel they don’t need it.” Obviously, things have changed in the Disney parks since then, but Disneyland Resort is still the lone holdout, serving alcohol in just a few select locations.

We will continue to look out for additional updates — including a look at the new menus at these dining locations, so stay tuned. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stick around for more.
