Disney Ending Supply of Physical Media Starting with DVD & Blu-Ray in One Continent

Do you remember when you bought your last Disney DVD? News from Disney last week suggests that it might soon be your last. In the first of what is likely to be many to come, Disney announced the end of an era last week as details were released of the entertainment giant’s final phase of physical media distribution. In a nod toward the undisputable shift in market share from physical media such as DVD and Blu-Ray to online streaming services, Disney has declared that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be their last DVD and Blu-Ray release in the continent.

The next and final release (GotG v3) is expected to hit stores in the region in early August and will be the last opportunity for collectors to add a physical title to their well-curated Disney libraries. While there has been no word about the sales of DVD and Blu-Ray products from Disney in other parts of the world, Australia appears to be a test environment for Disney audiences to bid farewell to this media platform. Once current stocks are exhausted, viewers will need to seek out overseas copies to add to their collections.

What was the last Disney DVD or Blu-Ray title that you purchased? Could it be your last?
