Top 3 Ways to Avoid the Heat at Magic Kingdom

As each day passes and we get deeper into summer, the temperatures keep rising. I recently spent the day at Magic Kingdom, and it was 90 degrees out, but the “feels like” with humidity was 97 degrees. I thought I was going to turn into a puddle and fall through the cracks of Main Street, U.S.A., and that’s when I decided to find three different ways to cool off at the park.

Find Places to Hide

I know hiding doesn’t sound like the perfect Disney day, but there are plenty of places in Magic Kingdom to escape the heat. My two personal favorite spots are Center Street on Main Street and Merchants of Venus in Tomorrowland. Center Street gives off those authentic Disney vibes. The area is secluded, but the theming pulls all the way through. You can hear singing lessons from one of the windows and a piano class!

Merchants of Venus is a new spot of mine because they recently turned the space into a seating area. The biggest perk to this spot is that it’s in air conditioning and next to an ice cream window. Not only is it cold in there, but they also have plenty of outlets so you can charge your phone. If you didn’t bring your charging equipment, don’t worry. They have a FuelRod station in there too.

These are just my two favorite spots, but there are plenty more, like Tortuga Tavern. Now I am not a fan of the menu at this spot, but there are plenty of covered seating areas. Some days I find myself sitting here, taking a break from the sun before making my way into Frontierland.

Drink A Lot of Water

Drinking water is the most important piece of advice I could give you. If you are like me, you take your emotional support water bottle everywhere. I go through my bottle very fast, so I make it a point to visit quick-service dining locations because they give out free cups of water. That’s an excellent and affordable way to keep your water bottle filled.

Now, if you don’t carry a water bottle or don’t like water from a soda machine and you are an Annual Passholder or DVC member, go into a merchandise location to buy a bottle of water. You can use your discount and get 10% off on your water or more, depending on the time of year.

I went into Pinocchio Village Haus the other day to fill up my water bottle, and of course, I had to grab it while I was there. They had cups of water ready to hand out to guests, and that’s very common to see on hot summer days.

Eat Refreshing Treats

I know getting all worked up on sugar is probably not the best, but there is no issue that a Dole Whip can’t fix. Several refreshing treats at Magic Kingdom can make you forget about the heat for a few minutes. There’s Dole Whip at Aloha Isle and citrus flavors over at Sunshine Tree Terrace. If Dole Whip isn’t your thing, you can grab ice cream at the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor or Storybook Treats.

Now if none of that jumps out at you, then you can head over to the Main Street Confectionery and order what they call Frozen Glaciers, but truly they are slushies. They have a variety of flavors, from blue raspberry, fruit punch, lemonade, and Fanta orange.

Out of all those options, Dole Whip is my go-to. I love going to Sunshine Tree Terrace and ordering the Dole Whip Strawberry Cup; it’s $5.29 but worth it.

These are just the ways I like to cool off when I visit Magic Kingdom, but obviously, the most important thing is staying hydrated.
