PHOTOS, VIDEO: Splash Mountain Closes Permanently at Disneyland

Four months after its Floridian counterpart closed, the original Splash Mountain at Disneyland has officially taken its last plunge into the Briar Patch. The flume ride will be turned into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, expected to open next year. Join us on a final adventure with Br’er Rabbit as he escapes Br’er Fox and Br’er Bear on his way to the Laughin’ Place and back.

The Last Splash

At 10:00 a.m. on the final day, the stand-by wait time for Splash Mountain was about 65 minutes.

Early in the day, Cast Members set up the extended Pirates of the Caribbean queue to act as an extended Splash Mountain queue, in anticipation of later crowds.

By 2:00 p.m., the wait was 200 minutes.

Tape was added to the ground for the extended queue.

More extended queue was later added back towards the Haunted Mansion.

Guests at this point started to notice more park security gathering near the attraction. Just before 5:30p.m., the single rider line closed for good.

Wait times reached 260 minutes, around 4 hours and 10 minutes, at around 6:45p.m.

Imagineers like Tony Baxter and Tom K. Morris gathered at the park to say their goodbyes as well.

The lines never let up, and stayed long for the rest of the night.

All around Splash Mountain and Critter Country, fans of the ride came to say their final goodbyes to the Br’ers.

The end of the line was right by The Haunted Mansion. Guests in the lengthy queue could get a good look at the iconic plunge into the briar patch as they waited.

The wait was at its peak of 260 minutes, 4 hours and 20 minutes, just before the line closed forever at 10:00p.m. At that point, it disappeared off the app and guests were no longer allowed to queue.

At 12:30a.m., the barn doors shut for good, bringing an end to nearly 33 years of satisfactual splashing. With Walt Disney World’s version having closed in January, now guests can only experience Splash Mountain at Tokyo Disneyland.
