Disney Dining Review: We are Going to Space, Well, Space 220 at EPCOT

We have a really fun and exciting dining review for you today coming from space. Space 220 at EPCOT opened September 20th, 2021, next to everyone’s favorite ride, Mission: SPACE. Obviously, that was a joke, but yes, you can either ride a motion simulator attraction or enjoy a meal in space. Which would you choose? I have never dined here, and neither has Ryno or Kylie, leaving Craig to be the only one that has experienced Space 220.

Before we launch into the meal, let’s go over the type of restaurant this is. Lunch and dinner are two different experiences here with a prix-fixe menu. For lunch, it’s a 2-course meal; during dinner, the prix-fixe menu consists of a 3-course meal—both feature modern American cuisine. To get to the restaurant, guests board a special space elevator that will take them into space. Along the way, viewports will give visitors an aerial view of EPCOT as they travel high above the planet. As for pricing, it’s $55 per adult for lunch, and for dinner, it’s $79 per adult. For the kids, both meals are priced at $29.

Appetizers

I ordered the Starry Calamari, and I had high hopes for this because I miss the ones I ordered at Mama Melrose’s. Unfortunately, these were not as good as those. The calamari was tough, and I felt that it lacked seasoning. It was served with two different sauces a Spicy Marinara and a Roasted Pepper Citrus Aioli. The aioli was my favorite, but the marinara wasn’t horrible. I just preferred the flavors of the other sauce. In my opinion, this appetizer was a 6 out of 10.

Craig ordered the Neptuna Tartare, which came with Sushi Grade Yellow Fin Tuna, Avocado Crema, Mango Coulis, Edamame, Wonton Crisp, and Yuzu Dressing. He mentioned that the fish was fresh but could’ve done without the mango coulis.

Kylie ordered the Blue Moon Cauliflower, Tempura Fried Cauliflower, Housemade Hot Sauce, and Blue Cheese Dust. This dish quickly became the table’s favorite and was one of the highlights of Kylie’s meal. The cauliflower wasn’t covered in buffalo sauce. That flavor was more subtle, which is excellent for anyone sensitive to spicy foods.

Ryno ordered the Big Bang Burrata, made with Compressed Watermelon, Burrata Mozzarella, Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes, Arugula, Florida Citrus Oil, and White Balsamic Dressing. This was another dish that won the table over. Ryno mentioned how fresh all the flavors were and how fresh the burrata mozzarella was. I couldn’t try the dish, but the presentation was gorgeous.

Entrees

I ordered the Rocket Flame Seared Tuna for my entree, made with Fennel Spice-Rubbed Tuna Loin, Eggplant Caponata, Arugula, and Aged Balsamic. I enjoyed the flavors of the dish. The best part of the dish was how all the flavors came together and complemented one another. I mentioned that this meal felt very refreshing and wasn’t a heavy dish either. Overall my feeling about the dish was that it was fine. I didn’t think it was something out of this world. I could order this at many other places on and off Walt Disney World property. I shared some of my meal with Ryno, and he wasn’t a fan of the eggplant caponata but liked everything else about it.

Craig ordered the Slow Roasted Crystal Valley Chicken with 48-hour Brined Chicken Breast, Zucchini, Summer Squash, Ricotta Cheese, and Sun Dried Tomato Butter Sauce. The dish’s presentation was beautifully prepared, but he mentioned that it lacked flavor even though it was 48-hour brined chicken breast. He hoped the meal would’ve been better, but it was just okay.

Kylie ordered the Steak & Frites, which we thought should be called frites with a side of steak. When they brought her plate, we all laughed at how many fries were on it; it was comical. This dish comes with Coffee Space Rub Flat Iron, Fries, Broccolini, and Chimichurri. Kylie enjoyed the flavors of the coffee space rub and the chimichurri. The only note she has is to make the portion of fries smaller.

Ryno ordered the Space Pad “Thai,” made with Rice Noodles, Stir Fried Vegetables, Peanuts, Bean Sprouts, Crispy Tofu, Garlic Chili Crunchy, and Sweet Soy Chili Sauce. I tried his dish, and I loved the flavors of the soy chili sauce mixed with the peanuts. The vegetables were very fresh, and the tofu was cooked perfectly. The only negative to this was how oily the dish was. This dish was on my radar to order, and now looking at it, I wish I ordered that, but I’m glad I got to try some of it.

Dessert

We dined during lunch, so dessert was not included in our meals, but we decided to try some of their sweet treats anyways.

I ordered the Carrot cake, which is dairy-free and plant-based, costing $14. This was hands down the best dessert on the table. The dish consists of Carrot Cake, Cream Cheese, Candied Walnuts, and Toasted Pepitas. I gasped when I took my first bite because it was so amazing. All I could say was, “This taste like fall!” It had all of those warm flavors that bring you back to autumn. It reminded me of the Starbucks drinks that came out during that season. I shared this with Ryno, who immediately fell in love with this Carrot Cake. For me, that was a 10 out of 10 dessert.

Craig and Kylie shared the Chocolate Cheesecake. This dessert looked beautiful and was priced at $14. The dessert comes with Whipped Chocolate Ganache, Chocolate Sauce, White Chocolate Crunchy Pearls, Cookie Crumbs, and Dark Chocolate Shards. Craig enjoyed the dessert, but Kyile mentioned that she felt like it was missing something and that fruit would’ve elevated the dish.

Ryno got the Peanut Caramel Comet which was also priced at $14. This dessert includes Vanilla Tart, Candied Peanuts, Caramel Popcorn, and White Chocolate Cream. When describing the dish, he said the flavor reminded him of Cracker Jacks but that he enjoyed the Carrot Cake more than this dessert.

Final Thoughts

Space 220 is okay, everything was fine, but I guess going in with high expectations was my fault. I was so excited and ready to eat an extremely unique meal. I did love the aesthetic of the restaurant. It reminded me of old-school EPCOT. Ryno described it perfectly; he said it felt like Coral Reef but space themed, and I agree with him.

I wouldn’t run out of my way to return here, especially at that price point. Now, I have several family members interested in this experience, and I would go back with them to see their reactions, but I wouldn’t come here again on a random Wednesday.

If you’ve ever dined here, please tell us about your experience in the comments below.
