Lightning Lanes SOLD OUT FAST for TRON Lightcycle / Run in Disney World

Today (March 20th) is a very important day in Magic Kingdom!

TRON Lightcycle / Run

TRON Lightcycle / Run officially opens on April 4th, but it has a soft opening on March 20th through April 2nd. The new coaster does NOT have a standby line, so in order to ride you’ll need to either get a spot in the virtual queue or purchase an individual Lightning Lane. Due to the ride’s popularity, both options are going to be a little more difficult than you may be anticipating!

This morning, we were ready to try to secure our spot in the virtual queue, but that queue filled up within SECONDS. Note that the virtual queue is the only FREE way to ride TRON Lightcycle / Run right now. The first virtual queue opens at 7AM for all guests as long as you have a Magic Kingdom park pass reservation or an Annual Pass. There is another opportunity to join that queue at 1PM (but, unlike the 7AM option, you must be inside Magic Kingdom in order to join that queue), and for guests who are eligible for Extended Evening Hours, another queue opens at 6PM on days when that event takes place in Magic Kingdom.

So what happens if that virtual queue doesn’t work out for you? The next option is to buy an individual Lightning Lane. TRON Lightcycle / Run is NOT included in the normal Genie+ system (the new-ish way to skip the line at some Disney World rides). Instead, it’s a pay-per-ride attraction, so you must pay a separate, additional fee in order to skip the line.

Individual Lightning Lanes go on sale at 7AM for people staying at Disney World hotels and at the park’s opening time for all other guests. With TRON, however, you may need a hotel reservation if you want even a chance at securing one of these Lightning Lanes. This morning, the Lightning Lanes were sold out within MINUTES of them going on sale at 7AM. That means that, by the time the park opened at 8AM, there were no spots left for non-hotel guests.

The price for one of those Lightning Lanes for TRON was $20 per person, according to Scott Gustin. We’ll continue to watch for more updates on the soft opening of TRON Lightcycle / Run, and we’ll be ready at 1PM to try again for that virtual queue!
