It’s been a pretty MAJOR week for theme park announcements.

We learned about new and returning nighttime shows at Disney World, along with some seriously exciting news about the opening date for TRON Lightcycle Run. Not to be outdone, Universal Studios has just announced something HUGE — a NEW experience coming to Texas!

Yes, you read that correctly — Universal Parks & Resorts plans on expanding its lineup of theme parks by building a BRAND NEW experience in Frisco, Texas!

Universal shared, “The new park concept, set in a lush green landscape and featuring immersive themed lands, celebrates Universal’s iconic brand of entertainment, humor, and innovation and brings to life its beloved characters and stories in ways that will wow even the youngest theme park goers.”

According to Bloomberg, the company wants to build “a family-focused resort aimed specifically at younger kids on 97 acres of land it’s acquired” in the suburb of Dallas. The new park will include rides, shows, a hotel, as well as character meet and greets that feature Minions and Shrek!

Not only that, but a “year-round, horror-focused destination” is planned for Las Vegas, Nevada. The 110,000 square feet destination will be the main tenant in a new expansion of Vegas’ Area15 entertainment district.

This makes sense for Universal as Halloween Horror Nights attracts thousands of visitors each year, and Universal is known for its classic horror characters! According to Bloomberg, “content from both historical and upcoming films will be featured in the Las Vegas property.”

It looks like Universal is trying to take advantage of the booming theme park business, with consumers returning to recreational activities and parks following the global pandemic.
