Today is a VERY special holiday…do you know which one?!
Mickey and Minnie together!
It’s Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse’s birthday! That’s right, the power couple of the century SHARE a birthday because they both premiered in “Steamboat Willie” on November 18th, 1928. And every year, there’s one super rare and quite unique way to celebrate their birthday!
If you head to the Under the Sea — Journey of the Little Mermaid queue at noon on November 18th each year, you’ll be treated to one of the rarest hidden Mickeys of all! Each year around that time, the rock formations about the queue line up perfectly with the position of the sun to project a hidden Mickey shadow on the wall.
It’s faint, but it’s there!
Now THAT is some impressive Imagineering, y’all!
The rocks are engineered just right!
And to celebrate the occasion, a Cast Member will lead the gathering crowd in a rousing rendition of “Happy Birthday” to the iconic mice! It’s a very special moment.

At noon exactly, the Mickey was pretty faint, but the longer we stayed to watch, the clearer it became. By the time it was about 12:11PM, we started to notice something we hadn’t seen before…
Is that Mickey AND Minnie?!
…there are TWO characters there! Do you see it? It appears to be a hidden Mickey on the left and a hidden Minnie Mouse on the right. You can make out the shape of her bow between her ears.

We’ve seen the hidden Mickey in the past, but this is the first time we’ve seen Minnie Mouse so clearly. It’s possible that she’s been there before and clouds were just obstructing the view, but either way, it’s a VERY cool sight!
What a cool moment!
So if you’re planning to go find the hidden Mickey (and Minnie!) next year, you might want to stay a few extra minutes to see if the image becomes more visible after a few minutes. This is one of those truly over-the-top ways that Disney just makes their parks special!
