Disney World and Disneyland prices can vary depending on the time of year and demand for the theme parks. We’ve seen surge pricing on tickets, hotel rooms, holiday parties, and more. Now, it looks like surge pricing is coming to another part of Disneyland.
Disney Genie+ is the add-on feature that allows you to skip the line at 19 attractions in Disneyland Resort. You could previously purchase Genie+ for $20 per person, per day, but it just got a pretty big price increase. However, updated language on Disneyland’s website shows that this feature could get even MORE expensive.
Disney Genie+ jumped in price from $20 per person, per day to $25 per person, per day. However, a 25% increase isn’t the only change that we saw on the website this morning. Disney’s language about the price of Genie+ was updated to say that the price starts at $25, but “prices vary by date.”
Surge pricing isn’t new to Disneyland, and we’ve previously seen it applied to Individual Lightning Lanes (pay-per-ride attractions) in the parks. But this update is new to Genie+, which previously did not change price based on the time of year.
Sue from Small World Vacations informed us that Disney said, “Disney Genie+ service continues to be very popular among our guests. As we continue to manage the strong demand we are seeing for this service, we are introducing variable pricing for Disney Genie+, beginning Tuesday, Oct. 11.” They noted that, while Genie+ will begin at $25 per person, per day in Disneyland, that cost “may vary by date, based on demand.”
If you’re visiting Disneyland during a popular time (such as in the summer or over the holiday season), you can expect to pay more than $25 to use Disney Genie+. Disney hasn’t announced how much the price may increase during these busier times, but we’ll be watching to see how much that price goes up.
Disney specified that “Disney Genie+ will now be $25 per day when purchased in advance as an add-on with a new ticket or vacation packages. Single-day purchases for Disney Genie+ through the Disneyland app will begin at $25 per day, and may vary by date, based on demand.” So it’s possible that booking Genie+ in advance with your tickets (instead of purchasing it while you’re in Disneyland) could save you money because it sounds like you won’t be subject to the variable pricing in that situation. Disney hasn’t confirmed this, but the language seems to indicate that surge pricing only applies to Genie+ when it’s purchased the day-of.
Note that WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure has moved from being an Individual Lightning Lane to part of Disney Genie+ in Disneyland.
Disney World will also have variable Genie+ pricing, starting at $15 per person, per day. We’ll continue to watch for more updates on Genie+ in Disney World and Disneyland, so stay tuned to DFB for all the latest news.
