Are you ready for the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival?
We are — and now that the festival is finally here, we’re trying ALL the food and getting you ALL the reviews! So far, we’ve told you about some fun mimosas, a tasty mac and cheese, and a delicious taco and margarita combo, but now we’re checking out The Swanky Sauce Swine booth, which made its debut at the festival last year!
Menu
If the name didn’t give it away, The Swanky Sauce Swine is all about BBQ and pork, two of our favorite combinations.
Sounds delicious, right? So let’s dive into some food!
Food
This spread is looking good!
The Crispy Barbecued Pork Rinds with pimento cheese is a returning item this year! For $4.75, you get some super crispy pork rinds and pimento cheese to dip them in. The pork rinds have a bit of a kick to them! They’re not for the spicy averse. As for the dip, it was spicy as well, but it also had a smoky flavor that was enjoyable.
This snack is gluten-friendly, and also part of Emile’s Fromage Montage (aka, the Cheese Crawl).
The Soy-glazed Sticky Ribs with green onions and peanuts is also returning this year for $7. Not only do these ribs usually look GORGEOUS, but we found them to be delicious as well last year. So, what about this year?
These were good, but we could have used some more sauce — they were a bit dry. The ribs have a mild flavor to them and we didn’t really get any smokiness or sweetness. But, overall these are tasty!
But wait, because there’s a NEW dish at this booth this year. It’s the Grilled Pork Shoulder Lettuce Wrap with charred corn salsa, pickled red onion, and cilantro-lime crema for $5.25.
These lettuce wraps were tasty as well! They’re very refreshing and the pork was tender and not dry at all. Our lettuce was a little bit wilted, but they were still enjoyable. Our reporter did wish there was a little more sauce though! And, if you’re worried about an overpowering cilantro flavor, don’t be! It’s not that strong at all. This dish is also gluten-friendly!
Drinks
The Rombauer Zinfandel for $9.50 is returning this year, and there’s also a new beer — the Parish Brewing Co. SIPS Cabernet Franc Strawberry, which is $5 for a 6 oz. and $9 for a 12 oz.
This beer is very refreshing and delicious. It has a nice carbonation to it, but it’s not too much like when a fizzy drink makes your nose tickle! It had a nice and fresh strawberry flavor that didn’t taste artificial at all. It also wasn’t too tart or sweet, which made this a super sippable beer. If you like fruity beers, you should try this one out!
The Bourbon Bloody Mary for $11 is returning this year, though. It’s a Bourbon Bloody Mary with Labrot & Graham Woodford Reserve Bourbon Whiskey. We’ve loved it in the past — plus it has a FULL SLICE of candied bacon in it. Say what?
However, this year we found the drink to be way too spicy! It also separated and we had to keep stirring it just to keep the integrity of the drink. These flavors just aren’t the best if you’re looking for a nice and refreshing drink on a hot day. But if you love Bloody Marys (especially spicy ones) you might enjoy this!
We DO love the souvenir cup the Bloody Mary comes in, though.
Overall
Overall, this booth is great for meat eaters and spice lovers! If you can’t handle spice at all, we might skip over the pork rinds and the Bloody Mary if we were you. The eats here are a bit more adventurous than your average theme park food, and have some great flavors to check out. Our only big gripe is that we wanted more sauciness from the Swanky Saucy Swine!
