Heat Advisory Issued For Disney World This Weekend

Disney World is HOT!!!

That Florida sunshine ain’t no joke

We don’t mean HOT as it’s a popular place to visit right now (it is, thanks to summer crowds). We don’t mean hot as in eating a spicy snack. We don’t even mean hot as in EPCOT has a HOT new ride that everyone is flocking to. No, we’re talking about the weather, which has prompted heat advisories for the area.

According to ClickOrlando.com, heat advisories have been issued by the National Weather Service for several counties in Florida, including both Orange County and Osceola County, the two counties Disney World resides in. These heat advisories are in effect for today, Saturday, June 18th from 2PM to 8PM.

Headed to the parks? It’s going to be HOT

The National Weather Service issues a heat advisory when the heat index is expected to get over 108 degrees. The weather for today could be the hottest of the year in Central Florida with highs in the mid-to-upper 90s, with heat indexes close to 111 degrees. Whew!

It’s going to be hot in Magic Kingdom

As a result, the National Weather Service is suggesting that folks in the area stay out of the sun and drink lots of water to stay hydrated to prevent heat-related illnesses. Of course, if you’re visiting Disney World, that might be challenging. However, we have some tips that can help you stay cool in the heat.

It’s important to stay hydrated.

Staying hydrated is one of the most important things you can do. We recommend bringing your own water bottle to the parks — you can refill them at the parks’ water refilling stations. You can also ask for free water at many counter service restaurants across Disney World.

Don’t be afraid to ask for free water!

Also, don’t overdo it. We know there’s SO much you’ll want to do when you’re in the parks, but on days like today, it’s best to pace yourself and even consider taking an air-conditioned break back in your hotel room or jumping in your hotel’s pool during the hottest part of the day (usually mid-afternoon).

Chilling out in your hotel room could literally save your life.

Cooling towels can also help, as well as misting spray bottles — you can find these in many Disney World gift shops, but it’s usually cheaper to bring your own from home. Try to stay in the shade and indoors as much as possible, though, and do your best to keep out of direct sunlight for long periods (we know, easier said than done at Disney World).

If for some reason you do start feeling sick or unwell in the heat, let a Cast Member know — they’ll take care of you. Be safe out there, folks! Stay tuned to DFB for more!
