Why You Can’t Rely on Citrus Swirl Being in Disney World Right Now

As we head into summer in Disney World, the temperatures are only going to increase, and what’s one of the best ways to beat the summer heat? Why, ice cream, of course!

Mickey Premium Bar

Disney World has no shortage of ice cream, from the new Salt and Straw ice cream shop in Disney Springs, to the iconic Mickey Premium Bar, and even the cult classic DOLE Whip! One treat that has been playing with our emotions recently, however, is the Citrus Swirl from Sunshine Tree Terrace in Magic Kingdom.

The Citrus Swirl is a simple, yet delicious ice cream treat. It is frozen orange juice swirled with vanilla soft-serve (sounds refreshing, right?), and after months of being absent from the Sunshine Tree Terrace menu (due to problems with the machine necessary to make it), it finally returned to the Mobile Order menu in March.

Since then, it has been very…inconsistent. It is sometimes available through Mobile Order, though sometimes, it is only available when ordering at the window. Sometimes, it isn’t available at all.

The Citrus Swirl isn’t always available!

Today, we noticed that it was not available through Mobile Order, so we headed over to Sunshine Tree Terrace to see what was up. When we got there, we noticed it also wasn’t an option on the menu posted outside of Sunshine Tree Terrace, either.

It wasn’t on the physical menu, either!

When we asked about its whereabouts, we were told that one of the parts on the machine they need to make it was broken, and needs to be replaced. At this time, they’re not sure when it will be back on the menu.

So the moral of the story is to not have your heart set on a citrus swirl right now. We totally think it’s worth checking to see if it is on the menu when you are in Magic Kingdom. But you may want to go in with the mindset that it likely won’t be there so you aren’t so disappointed when it isn’t. You can always head over to Aloha Isle for a few more summery frozen treats if that’s what you are really craving. There you will find the Tropical Serenade which we could literally eat every. single. day. It’s THAT GOOD!

We will be keeping an eye on the Mobile Order menu and the physical menu waiting for this treat to return, so make sure to stay tuned to DFB for all the latest updates!
