What’s Going on With Disney’s Iconic Fuzzy Tauntaun Drink? We Investigate

Want to feel your mouth go NUMB while drinking a cocktail? The iconic Fuzzy Tauntaun at Oga’s Cantina could be just the drink to get. But this fun concoction seems to be encountering some potential issues.

The Fuzzy Tauntaun!

The Fuzzy Tauntaun has done it all — made our list of the most bizarre snacks, made our list of some of the BEST snacks, and even inspired us to make an at-home version. But if your goal is to get one in the parks, there’s something you need to know.

Fuzzy Tauntaun

If you’re not familiar with it, the Fuzzy Tauntaun is an ICONIC drink you can typically find at Oga’s Cantina in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at both Disney World and Disneyland.

The drink is made with Cîroc Peach Vodka, Bols Peach Schnapps, Simply® Orange with Tangerine, Pure Cane Sugar, and “Buzz Button Tingling” Foam. That “Buzz Button Tingling” foam is what makes your mouth go numb when drinking it. We’re not kidding folks, you truly feel NUMB!!

The foam gets this effect from an ingredient mixed into it which is a natural painkiller derived from a special Szechuan flower known as “Buzz Buttons.” The sensation is pretty bizarre, but also VERY entertaining. It wears off pretty fast so you aren’t stuck feeling numb for too long!

For its great peach flavor and its hilarious numbing effect, this drink can be a popular pick at Oga’s Cantina. But getting it could be a bit more difficult these days.

Disney World

At Disney World, the Fuzzy Tauntaun is still listed on the menu at Oga’s Cantina.

When we spoke to a Cast Member at Oga’s Cantina in Disney World recently (on May 24th, 2022), the Cast Member indicated that the drink is in fact still on the menu and not being removed at this time. But the Cast Member did tell us that they’re changing the foam that is used on the drink. That change reportedly has not yet taken place though.

So it seems that for now, you can still get the Fuzzy Tauntaun in Disney World, but its foam formula may be changing soon. We’ll have to see if/how that impacts the drink overall.

Disneyland

At Disneyland, things are a bit different. Online, the menu for Oga’s Cantina no longer lists the Fuzzy Tauntaun.

So we went over to the Oga’s Cantina area to speak with a Cast Member and see what’s going on. When we spoke to the lead Cast Member at Oga’s Cantina in Disneyland they shared that there have been some “embargo” issues impacting their ability to “get things from other planets” (a bit of Star Wars talk there).

Though they didn’t elaborate on that, it seems something appears to be preventing Disney’s ability to make the drink at Disneyland, and the “embargo” issues referred to make us think it’s likely some kind of supply chain problem (though again that wasn’t explicitly confirmed).

Time to grab a drink!

So if you’re heading to Disneyland right now, it seems that you could encounter a bit of trouble trying to access this iconic drink. You’ll want to be prepared for the possibility of not having access to this drink during your next Disneyland trip, and potentially encountering a different version of it in the future in Disney World.

So, what can you do? Well, you should keep checking on the situation and speaking with Cast Members to get the latest updates, as things can quickly change.

If you’re looking for an alternative, you could pick up 2 of this spot’s more underrated drinks or go for something like the Jet Juice or the Jedi Mind Trick, which have been favorites of ours in the past!

Jedi Mind Trick

If supply chain issues are in fact to blame for this situation, it wouldn’t be the first time a Disney park or Disney food has been impacted by that type of thing. Supply chain issues have impacted stores in the Disney parks, certain products (including some Gideon’s Bakehouse cookies), and more.

The important thing here is to be prepared and go in with a sense of flexibility. If you’ve got some back-up options in mind, that’ll help you ensure that you continue to have a great trip despite some things potentially not going exactly as planned.

We’ll continue to look for updates regarding this drink and we’ll let you know what we find. Stay tuned for all the latest Disney news!
