REVIEW: We Tried The New SWEET TEA Fried Chicken (!!) in Disney World

If you’re looking for a casual meal in Disney World that’s still REALLY good, Disney Springs is THE place to be!

The Polite Pig at Disney Springs!

While there are a ton of options to please almost any flavor palette, like Pan-Asian cuisine at Morimoto Asia or Spanish-inspired eats from Jaleo, there are also some more traditional eats like BBQ from The Polite Pig! But, just because you’re opting for some traditional American eats doesn’t mean that you have to settle — The Polite Pig is now home to SWEET TEA fried chicken and we knew we HAD to check it out as soon as it was announced!

The Sweet Tea Fried Chicken is the new Chef Special that you can order up on the menu for $19. It comes with fried chicken marinated in sweet tea, served with succotash, coleslaw, a cheddar biscuit, and hot honey sauce. And you guys…this meal HIT. THE. SPOT!

Chef Special

The fried chicken was moist and the breading was super crispy, which made for the perfect bite. But, surprisingly, that wasn’t actually the star of the dish for us… .

Fried Chicken and Cheddar Biscuit

The true star was the succotash! OMG, this side was DE-LISH-US and is made with lima beans and corn in a cream sauce, that’s then tossed with bread crumbs on top. OH, and we can’t forget to mention the kick of heat at the end of each bite! If you love yourself some spice then you’ll probably enjoy this one — otherwise, you might want to have a glass of milk with ya.

Succotash

We also really enjoyed the cheddar biscuit, which was moist, flaky, and delicious. But the coleslaw? It was DOUSED in vinegar rather than the mayo-based coleslaws we’re used to having — so if you’re a big fan of vinegar-based dishes then this might end up being the highlght. As far as our taste buds go though, we weren’t big fans.

Cole Slaw

The Chef Special comes with a cute, tiny bottle of Tabasco sauce if you want to add even more of a kick to your meal. But, we found that the hot honey sauce provided just enough heat to balance out all the flavors in the chicken.

Hot Honey Sauce and Tabasco Included in the Chef Special

Overall, we thought the Chef Special was a good option among the many tasty eats you can find at The Polite Pig. If we could change anything, it would be the coleslaw — we prefer mayonnaise-based coleslaws, but of course, that’s just our own preference! It is on the pricier end of the menu, but with three sides and a big serving of chicken, you could likely get away with sharing this dish with a friend or two.

So head over to The Polite Pig to give their Chef Special a try! And we’ll continue reviewing the new foods popping up around Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB!
