NEWS: Disneyland Won’t Use Genie+ for Character Meet-and-Greets

It’s almost time, y’all!

Our pal Mickey

Soon, we’ll be able to hug Mickey Mouse in Disneyland again! Beginning April 18th, Disney will begin bringing back traditional character meet-and-greets in Disneyland Park. It’s been almost 2 years since we’ve hugged our pal Mickey, and we could not be more excited. These close-up meet and greets are also returning to Disney World at the same time, but we just found out that there will be one BIG difference between the two parks when the traditional meet-and-greets return.

The Orange County Register has reported that Disneyland will NOT use Genie+ for character meet-and-greets, according to Disneyland officials.

Aurora in Disneyland

Genie+ is available in Disneyland for guests to purchase, and it allows users to skip the line at almost 20 attractions between the 2 parks. This service costs $20 per ticket per day. Although many popular attractions are included, now we know that the traditional character meet-and-greets will not be part of Genie+ when they return next week.

This is different than what’s happening in Disney World. A few character meet-and-greets are already available with Genie+ in the Disney World parks, including meeting Mickey Mouse at Town Square Theater and meeting the princesses at Princess Fairytale Hall.

Princess Fairytale Hall Standby line

For now, the only option for meeting characters in Disneyland will be to wait in the standby line. Keep in mind that officials could change this policy later on. Some of the spots in Disneyland where close-up character meet-and-greets will return include Fantasy Faire Royal Hall and Pixie Hollow (where you can meet Tinker Bell!). Remember that Mickey and Minnie’s houses are currently closed, due to the renovations happening in Toontown.

See ya soon, Toontown!

We’ll keep an eye out and let you know if this policy changes in the future, so stay tuned with DFB for all the latest Disney news!
