The travel industry has been significantly impacted by the global pandemic, which you may have experienced when traveling to Disney World.

We’ve seen quite a few changes with mask policies in regards to the COVID-19 pandemic, with updates at Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and more. When it comes to travel, a mask mandate has been in place for anyone traveling by air in the United States, and today a big update to this mask mandate could affect your next flight. This change comes after a Florida judge voided the mask mandate on public transportation.

Up until now, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has enforced a mask mandate requiring all travelers to wear a mask on public transportation methods, including on airplanes, at airports, and more. After extending the mandate deadline several times, today is when things change for travelers.

The mask mandate on public transportation was actually extended recently, but then a federal judge in Florida ruled that the mandate was unlawful. Now, CNBC has reported that “The Transportation Security Administration will not enforce the mask mandate on public transportation after the court’s ruling” according to a Biden administration official. “However, the CDC continues to recommend that people wear masks on public transit.”

So as of today, people will no longer be required to wear a face mask in airports, on airplanes, or on other public transportation vehicles.

This change comes as COVID-19 cases decline in some areas of the U.S., with Orange County, Florida and Osceola County, Florida (the counties in which Disney World is located) recently having been downgraded to risk levels of medium and low, respectively, as designated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

As you may know, not long ago Disney World recently updated its mask policy to be optional for fully vaccinated guests, with the exception of some transportation methods. Masks are not required on the Skyliner.
