BREAKING: Genie+ CHANGE Announced for Expedition Everest in Disney World

Want to SKIP the lines for Expedition Everest? Well, you can…but just how you do that is about to change for a limited time.

Expedition Everest

For several months now, Expedition Everest has been closed for refurbishment. There was a potential for the ride’s refurbishment to last longer than expected, but now it seems like the ride will now be reopening soon! And when it does its Lightning Lane/Genie+ situation will be a little different than it was before.

A huge thanks to our reader Joe (@schreiberjoe on Instagram) for alerting us to this! Before we hop into the change, let’s go through a quick Genie+ break-down.

First, there’s the standard Genie+ service, which costs $15 per person per day. That lets you select a Lightning Lane return time and essentially skip the standby line for a variety of attractions in Disney World. Guests can make 1 Lightning Lane selection at a time throughout the day.

Next, there’s Individual Attraction Selection. Basically, not all rides are included through the standard Genie+ service. Instead, if you want to skip the lines at some super popular rides (like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure) you’ll need to pay SEPARATELY (individually) skip the lines at those rides. Guests can only buy 2 of these per day. Prices vary depending on the day, the park, and the ride. Essentially what you’re doing is paying a certain amount to skip the line once at one individual ride.

Prior to its closure for refurbishment, guests could pay to skip the line at Expedition Everest through the Individual Attraction Selection service. That meant that Expedition Everest was NOT available through the standard ($15 per person per day) Genie+ service. Instead, guests had to pay a separate price just to skip the ride once at Expedition Everest.

But, when Expedition Everest reopens following its refurbishment, things will be different for a period of time.

Instead of having to pay a separate price to skip the line just at Expedition Everest through Individual Attraction Selection, Expedition Everest will (for a limited time) be included in the standard Genie+ service. That means that if you pay the $15 per person (per day) to use the standard Genie+ service in Disney’s Animal Kingdom starting on April 16th, 2022, you’ll be able to use that standard Genie+ service to make a Lightning Lane selection for Expedition Everest.

This change will start on April 16th, 2022, when the ride reopens, and will last through August 7th, 2022.

This ride joins Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Frozen Ever After, and Space Mountain — all of which are temporarily available through the standard Genie+ service until August 7th, 2022. This is similar to what was done in December of 2021, at which time Expedition Everest was also offered through the standard Genie+ service for a limited time. After August 7th, it is expected that these rides will likely go back to being available through Individual Attraction Selection. We’ll look for any further changes made by Disney.

In the meantime, get excited for the return of Expedition Everest and the ability to select a Lightning Lane for that ride through the standard Genie+ service for a limited time. Check back with us for more Disney news!
