The Average Cost to Fly to Orlando in April of 2022

A Disney World trip is EXPENSIVE. Between the tickets, hotel, and food, you can easily spend thousands. But we can’t forget about one additional cost — your flight to get there (if you’re flying that is).

Airplane

Each month we take a look at the average cost to fly to Disney World. We’ve already taken a look at those flight costs for March, but now it’s time to look a little further and see just what to expect when it comes to April flight costs! Grab those budget sheets. It’s time to get planning!

Our Method

Just as we’ve done in previous months, we’ll be using a specific method when it comes to our calculations. Just what have we done? Well, we’ll explain it! First of all, we only looked at the average cost for flights from a select number of airports within the U.S. to Orlando International Airport (MCO) in April of 2022. If we looked at flight costs for all of the airports in the U.S. or international ones we’d be here ALL day, so we limited our search to just a few.

A Look at Some Airplane Seats

In terms of the dates, we looked at a trip where the departure was on Thursday, April 21st, and the returning flight was on Monday, April 25th. This range of dates had some more expensive dates in it, coupled with some dates priced at cheaper numbers. This was based on flight costs from JFK to MCO. While the Thursday date was on the expensive side, the Monday date had a lower cost. So (ideally) that helps to balance things out.

Keep in mind that prices can vary a LOT depending on what dates you choose to fly. This year, Easter falls on April 17th, so that will likely impact flight costs, as well as any other special events or just generally busy periods. You may find that it would be cheaper for you to fly in and out of Orlando on different days, so just keep that in mind.

©Google Flights

In terms of where we got our prices from, for this post (just as we’ve done before) we got all of our prices from Google Flights, with the except of Southwest Airlines (we got those prices directly from the Southwest Website). These prices are just a snapshot of what costs might look like. Flight prices can change daily (even sometimes within a matter of hours), so things could look very different when you go to book your flight.

Our costs also just reflect pure ticket prices. That doesn’t take into account the benefits and drawbacks that can come with flying on a certain airline. Some less expensive tickets might come with less benefits, while other more expensive tickets might be worth the additional cost for the bonuses they come with. What ticket type or airline is best for you will depend on your needs!

Luggage

Also, keep in mind that our costs below are really just base ticket prices for the most part. There are often additional fees or taxes that need to be paid, so just note that you’ll need to add on some money in your budget for that.

A few other things to note:

  • We tried to find the least expensive combination of flights (cheapest departing and cheapest returning flight). We then did the same for the most expensive flight combinations. The times of these flights and the number of layovers they may have might not work for you. They might leave really early or late or otherwise just not fit your schedule.
  • When it comes to Southwest Airlines, we stuck to the “Wanna Get Away” tickets.
  • For the airlines where we used Google Flights to get the estimated costs, keep in mind that the actual cost of your flight might be different once you go to book it on the flight’s website.
  • We limited our flight choices to ones that arrive on the same day as their departure.
  • All ticket prices are for 1 person.

Okay, enough with the disclaimers, let’s get into those costs! let’s get into the flight costs!

Spirit:

We had an interesting situation with Spirit Airlines for this trip. It would let us see departing flights on April 21st but noted that there were no return flights available on April 25th. In fact, several days around that were marked similarly.

What we did instead was pair a Spirit Airlines flight on the 21st, which was priced at $156.78; with a Frontier airlines ticket priced at $151. That combination is $307.78. That’s what we’ll use as the low and high for Spirit Airlines for this trip.

Travel

Overall, the average price to fly to Disney World in April of 2022 (using our specific method outlined above) ranged from about $338.71 on the cheaper side, up to about $1,028.13 in terms of the more expensive options.

This is more expensive than the flights we had looked at for select dates in March, but again things can vary greatly depending on when you choose to visit, what airline you use, etc. We did notice that Google Flights also sometimes flagged certain flights as being priced high for that trip, so again things can change.
