REVIEW: This Weirdly Named Disney World Sandwich is Surprisingly Delicious

Disney kicked off 2022 by slowly revealing new 50th anniversary treats arriving at Disney World on January 10th.

Shining in the sunset

Among a new selection of sweet and savory items like Croque Monsieur Flatbread, a Haunted Mansion Push Pop (no really), and even a new Dole Whip Float, is this odd-sounding sandwich that we had to try today, so come along with us as we check it out!

Today we visited the Golden Oak Outpost in Magic Kingdom to try the NEW Slue Foot Sue Fish Sandwich! You might be asking, what kind of name is that?! Well, it’s based on a character known as Slue-Foot-Sue from the 1948 film Melody Time. She’s a cowgirl and the love interest of Pecos Bill! Normally we wouldn’t want the word “foot” in a food name, but we’re giving it a try.

So how did this character translate to sandwich form? We’ll tell you! The Slue Foot Sue Fish Sandwich is a fried fish sandwich topped with cilantro-lime slaw for $12.99, and it comes with French fries.

Y’all, this is a FULL meal. You might want to be really hungry to order this or plan on splitting with someone else. Even the French fries were a huge portion! The bun was a little too much for us with everything else going on so we actually removed the top bun, but if you’re a bread person you probably won’t mind it.

The sandwich is made with pollock fish and it was fried PERFECTLY. We’re talking crispy-on-the-outside perfection. The fish had a nice, mild flavor, and it kind of reminded us of what gourmet grown-up fish sticks would taste like. The cilantro-lime slaw was light and didn’t drown the sandwich or make the fish soggy.

Take a closer look

You can definitely tell this sandwich is made with fish, so if you’re not a fish person we’ll just go ahead and recommend you skip it and get some chicken tenders instead. But if you like fish sticks, this is right up your alley! We were really impressed by how well the fish was done.

We’re kind of wondering why this sandwich didn’t end up at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe given the name! If you want to try it, visit Golden Oak Outpost in Magic Kingdom. Keep reading DFB for more Disney World food reviews!
