How and When You Can Buy Disney’s Newest NFTs

Disney is no stranger to new technologies, and they’re often among the first to dive in and utilize the latest advancements. From new ride and entertainment systems to the Disney+ streaming service to an entire metaverse, Disney has pioneered ground-breaking tech in the past, and they’re continuing to do so now.

One of the latest trends in digital media is creating and trading NFTs, which are non-fungible tokens (sort of like digital trading cards). Turns out, Disney is building a stronger presence in this industry as well, with a NEW limited-edition NFT collection.

Former Disney CEO Bob Iger recently sat down with a New York Times journalist to discuss Disney’s future with NFTs.

As a quick refresher, NFTs or non-fungible tokens are digital assets comparable to trading cards or art collections. People can create, buy, and sell NFTs online in a similar way to how you purchase art or exchange trading cards physically. The value of NFTs is that they’re the original copy of a piece of online media, and they come with a certificate of authenticity to prove it.

According to Medium, Disney is now releasing a new set of NFTs, called the Mickey and Friends NFT Collection. (Note that this isn’t the first time Disney has released an NFT collection.) This new collection features some of the most classic Disney characters. Each NFT costs 40.00, and they will all be released on the VeVe app for iOS and Android on Saturday, January 29th, 2022 at 8AM PT.

The NFTs are more than just cards, though. According to Medium, the cards “were designed and hand-painted by Disney artists Morgane Keesling and Naty Kosloff” and they have specialty backgrounds for the characters. The cards are in “rooms,” which means you can move the card around using “lenticular technology” to see it from different angles and zoom in. They also come with custom music for the characters, and you can “flip the card over to see a special autograph.”

The Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse cards are both classified as “Common,” with 13,928 editions.

Donald Duck is “Uncommon,” with 9,999 editions of this card.

You can also get a Daisy Duck card, which is “Rare,” at 8,888 editions.

Pluto is “Ultra Rare” with only 6,666 editions.

And finally, Goofy is “Secret Rare” with 4,444 editions.

All of these cards are First Editions, and they’re part of the Mickey and Friends Collection — Series 1. You can also choose the Blind Box option on VeVe, which means you won’t know which card you’re buying until you’ve purchased it. So if you’re hoping to get one of Disney’s new NFTs, make sure to download the VeVe app and be ready to purchase at 8AM PT on January 29th.
