NEWS: First Cases of the Omicron COVID-19 Variant Have Been Found in Florida

We’ve been keeping an eye out for updates about the COVID-19 pandemic for some time now.

Recently, we’ve shared some updates about Orange County, Florida being listed as a “rapid riser county” when it comes to COVID-19 cases, information about travel bans related to the new Omicron variant, and more. Now, we have an important update about the Omicron COVID-19 variant and Florida.

Previously, we had shared how cases of the new Omicron COVID-19 variant had been found in other parts of the United States. According to Spectrum News 13, the first cases of the Omicron COVID-19 variant have now been detected in Florida.

One case was detected in Tampa Bay. A representative of the hospital where it was found (James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital) noted that the patient is experiencing mild systems and had recently returned from travel abroad.

Spectrum News also notes that The Tampa Bay Times has reported that another case of the Omicron variant has been detected in St. Lucie County. The Tampa Bay Times has shared that “contact tracing is underway.”

Note that when it comes to health and safety policies, masks continue to be required by all guests ages 2 and up (regardless of vaccination status) in all indoor locations in Disney World and in all enclosed transportation.
