Review: Disney World’s New Treat is a Little Confusing!

We’re in the midst of a hot, humid summer in Walt Disney World, and that kind of weather calls for a cool, refreshing drink! Disney has been showing off several new treats and desserts this week for World Princess Week, but we must interrupt our scheduled princess content to bring you a new slushy!

Flame Tree Barbecue

While we were in Disney’s Animal Kingdom this morning, we noticed a new drink available at a popular quick-service dining location on Discovery Island. Let’s take a look!

Give a warm and breezy welcome to the new Tropical Breeze Slushy from Flame Tree Barbecue

New slushy alert!

The slushy is made up of layers of frozen mango and raspberry slushy and comes with a light-up glow cube. Based on the colors, we probably wouldn’t have predicted the mango flavor especially.

Blue and green slushy

And, to be entirely honest, we didn’t really taste the mango flavor here. Instead, we got more of a green apple/sour apple taste with a hint of raspberry. That green apple flavor was the strongest in our opinion. Also, fair warning, this drink will totally turn your tongue a blue/green color!

Glow cube in action

This drink was very sweet, so if you aren’t a fan of sugary, fruity drinks, you might want to pass on this one. The glow cube only increases this drink’s somewhat radioactive appearance — look at how that neon green color pops!

One thing to note is that Disney’s photo for the Tropical Breeze (pictured on the Mobile Order page for Flame Tree Barbecue) shows the beverage layered with a more mango-colored slush instead of the green color we got.

We think that the mixture of the slushies potentially caused our drink to look a bit different. We would have liked to have seen the slushies a bit more evenly distributed. It looked like they were fairly evenly mixed from the top, but as we drank more we felt like there was more of the green slushy overall.

Yum!!

Still, if you’re in need of a hit of sugar and or you’re looking for a nice sized, fruity drink to sip on in Animal Kingdom, you can now grab the Tropical Breeze slushy for $8.49 at Flame Tree Barbecue. We’ll continue to be on the lookout for new drinks and treats around Walt Disney World, so stay tuned for more news and updates!
