It Just Got WAY Easier to Handle Getting Sick in Disney World. Here’s How.

For the past several years, we’ve seen the presence of AdventHealth throughout various parts of Disney World.

Advent Health Signage

In 2019, AdventHealth hosted an outdoor kitchen at EPCOT’s International Flower & Garden Festival. AdventHealth has also served as a sponsor for events in Disney World like the 2020 Taste of EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays. This past year, we saw AdventHealth providing the temperature checks throughout the resort and Disney teamed up with AdventHealth to install some special technology for their children’s hospital in Orlando. But recently, Disney has made a NEW announcement about its partnership with AdventHealth that could significantly impact your future visits!

What’s Going On?

Just a few weeks ago, Disney announced that AdventHealth is now the OFFICIAL healthcare provider at Walt Disney WorldBecause of this partnership, we’ll see an expansion of virtual care options for those visiting Disney World hosted RIGHT in the My Disney Experience app. If you or a loved one has ever gotten sick in Disney World, you know what a big deal this is!

Previously, it was a MAJOR headache if anyone traveling in your party required medical attention on your trip. We’ve gotten sick, needed prescriptions, and, in rare cases, needed emergency medical attention before. It was basically on you to figure out how to get to an urgent care clinic, get your medicines, and more. This makes it so so much easier and more convenient.

There is now a new suite of virtual services available for those who may find themselves in Disney World with healthcare questions. These services include Athletic Training resources, runDisney resources, Emergency Room resources, Urgent Care and Virtual Care, a Care Concierge Call Center, Vacation Planning resources, and Equipment and Prescription Delivery.

There will be resources available both in person and virtually. Disney and AdventHealth are calling this a “world of wellness.”

If you search for “Advent” or “AdventHealth” in the My Disney Experience app you should find an option for something called “Guest Health Care Services Presented by AdventHealth.”

That’ll lead you to a separate page detailing more about the health care services being provided by AdventHealth. You can see a bit more about those services in the app, and it also has an option that will link you to the AdventHealth page where you can get more information, see how to download the AdventHealth app, and more.

Let’s break down some of the BIG features you’ll be able to take advantage of during upcoming trips!

Video Visits

First up, AdventHealth will be providing virtual healthcare visits for non-urgent matters. If you find yourself feeling a little bit sick during your vacation to Disney World and want to meet with a doctor (but don’t want/need to go in-person for an appointment) you’ll actually be able to save time and meet virtually with a doctor or nurse practitioner through the AdventHealth app.

The doctor or nurse practitioner will be able to give their diagnosis and prescribe treatments for minor ailments. Prescriptions can then be sent to a nearby pharmacy or even delivered to your Disney World hotel (more on that in a second).

What’s REALLY convenient about this feature is that it’s available 24/7, whenever you need it, no appointment necessary! To take advantage of this service, you will need to download the AdventHealth app though, so just keep that in mind. It would be best to download this app well in advance of your trip and set everything up so that you can have it ready to go if you ever need to use it during your stay.

©Disney

You can request a video visit through the AdventHealth app for $59. Some insurance may cover the cost though, so you’ll want to check with your provider. Since the global heath crisis started, we’ve seen a huge uptick in insurance companies offering teledoc visits like this for a small fee. So, depending on your insurance, it might be cheaper to go through their recommended service. But this is a great option for guests now.

Keep in mind that there are first aid centers in Disney World’s theme parks as well if you need assistance with a minor health issue (these are also now presented by AdventHealth). You can visit a local hospital or call 911 if necessary for larger medical issues.

AdventHealth Care Concierge

Another feature that’s available as part of this partnership between Disney World and AdventHealth is “Care Concierge.” According to AdventHealth, when you reach out to them from Disney World, their Care Concierge team will be ready to assist you.

©Disney | AdventHealth

Disney says that the “dedicated AdventHealth care concierge experience center will help meet guests’ needs, such as assistance with doctor’s appointments, virtual care, medical equipment and prescription delivery to Walt Disney World Resort hotels.” This Care Concierge experience center should be able to assist guests in getting the information and help they need while on vacation. Need medical assistance and not sure where to start while in Disney World? This is a great place.

Centra Care Urgent Care

If you end up needing to go to an urgent care clinic during your stay, there’s information about AdventHealth’s services in the My Disney Experience app now as well.

The AdventHealth Centra Care Urgent Care clinics are open 7 days a week, and their Lake Buena Vista clinic is actually open 24 hours, making it very convenient for anyone who may need assistance.

Disney World First Aid

If you’re worried about getting to the Urgent Care Center, it’s important to know that transportation to Centra Care Urgent Care is actually complimentary for Disney World Resort guests and it can be arranged through Disney’s first aid centers, through front desk Cast Members at the Disney hotels, or by calling the AdventHealth Experience Center.

©Disney

Hopefully you won’t need a trip to an Urgent Care center during your trip, but if you do, it’s good to know that this complimentary transportation service is available, and that you’ll be able to get help from a nearby urgent care center 24 hours a day.

Prescription Delivery

Thanks to the partnership between Disney and AdventHealth, guests at Disney World will also get some prescription delivery services. This can be massively convenient for future trips.

Disney World First Aid

If you find yourself in Orlando and realize that you forgot to pack your pills, you didn’t pack enough, you lose them, or anything else, AdventHealth’s Experience Center may be able to help.

You can give them a call 7 days a week and see what arrangements can be made to get your needed prescriptions delivered straight to your pharmacy of choice or straight to your Disney World hotel.

©Disney

Prescription delivery is something you’ve been able to do for a while with other services not associated with Disney, but it typically cost significantly more since these services often didn’t submit to your insurance on your behalf. Having it coordinated with AdventHealth and Disney could make it more convenient and accessible for guests.

Medical Equipment

If you’re planning on visiting Disney World and know you’ll need to rent medical equipment, or the need to rent this equipment arises during your stay, AdventHealth can also assist with that too. Again, this can be really helpful towards making your trip that much easier.

A wide variety of medical equipment can be delivered conveniently to your Disney Resort hotel. All you need to do is call the AdventHealth Experience Center to purchase or rent the equipment and schedule it for delivery prior to your trip.

First Aid

They’ve got a whole host of items available including a walker with seat and breaks, crutches, a knee scooter, a hospital bed, and more.

©Disney

If you need oxygen tanks or other items, they may be able to assist with that as well, but a physician’s order is required.

©Disney

Just be aware that not all services may be covered by insurance, so you’ll want to consult with your plan to see what is and what is not covered.

More Features

The AdventHealth section in the My Disney Experience app also provides information about how guests at Disney World can contact AdventHealth and provides links to help you find things like the First Aid Centers in the parks or the Centra Care Urgent Care.

©Disney

It also links to various guest services and pages that can help guests with their specific needs, like special dietary requests and more.

©Disney

And it links to resources for guests who need to rent ECVs or wheelchairs.

©Disney

The AdventHealth World of Wellness website also has a whole list of questions and answers to help guests who may be on vacation. There are answers to questions about potentially going into labor during your trip for pregnant guests, chemotherapy services, and more.

If you need physical therapy during your trip, AdventHealth can help with that too. Their website notes that local AdventHealth Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation teams can provide outpatient physical therapy.

There are also travel tips, articles and tips related to runDisney, and much more on the AdventHealth website which you can check out.

Whether you’re looking for advice on building your endurance, dietary restrictions, or tips for traveling while pregnant, there’s a whole host of resources available.

Emergency Room in Flamingo Crossings Town Center

Disney and AdventHealth also recently shared that AdventHealth will be building a NEW emergency room in the Flamingo Crossings Town Center.

The ER will be staffed by a “comprehensive clinical team” including board-certified emergency physicians and emergency nurses. AdventHealth notes that “the design of the facility and team member training will bring an enhanced patient experience for those who need emergency care.”

The Flamingo Crossings area is just a few minutes away from Disney World’s theme parks. In the photo below you can see the Residence Inn by Marriott Orlando at Flamingo Crossings Town Center (upper left) and Disney’s Animal Kingdom toward the bottom center/right.

A date hasn’t been shared when this new ER will open up, but when it does it’ll provide guests with a trusted ER option that is very close to the parks, making it all the more convenient.

Overall

Overall, this expanded partnership between Disney World and AdventHealth is meant to provide you with a greater peace of mind. While you could do most or all of this on your own previously (and could continue to do it with other providers in the future if you want), having it all coordinated with Disney and AdventHealth could make it that much easier. If something were to go wrong on your trip, it could be comforting to know that a system is already in place to deal with a variety of medical issues.

Be sure to look for the AdventHealth information page on My Disney Experience to check out their resources ahead of time. In advance of your next trip, it may also be a good idea to download the AdventHealth app and get that set up so you’ll have it ready if you need it.
