What better day for some SERIOUSLY exciting news from Disney World about the upcoming Star Wars Hotel experience, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. Not only did we learn that the hotel will have a delayed launch but we also learned a LOT of new details — including news about Disney’s REAL LIGHTSABER.

You might remember last month when Disney teased a real, extending lightsaber during a private press event. We shared all our thoughts because it was so mind-blowing to see.

Now, YOU can see a video of the new tech for the first time and we know where we’ll get to see it first — on Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser!

Disney announced this morning that guests who experience Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will be the first to see the new type of lightsaber created by Walt Disney Imagineering Research and Development in action. But you can get your first glimpse right here!

Wow! We’ve never seen a lightsaber like that before! Previously, these film tributes came with a detachable blade or a plastic expandable blade that had various pieces you could basically pull out to create the full blade. We’ve never really seen one that could pop up and expand from the hilt quite like that. We can’t WAIT to see it in person when the Star Wars Hotel opens next year!

According to Disney, guests visiting the Star Wars Hotel will be the first to see characters like Rey wield this new, more realistic lightsaber when the hotel opens in 2022. The lightsaber was designed by Walt Disney Imagineering Research and Development, and is said to create “dramatic in-person moments previously only seen in films or shows.”
