Why You May Want to Avoid Chef Mickey’s in Disney World Right Now!

Disney’s Contemporary Resort is home to many fan favorites, including the beloved Chef Mickey’s character meal.

Hiya Pal!

Even if you’ve never dined at Chef Mickey’s, if you’ve been to the Contemporary at all during dining hours, it is highly likely you’ve heard it. Kids screaming, parents shouting, forks and knives clanking — you know, just the perfect music for your ears. We can’t believe we’re saying this, but now something new has started at the Contemporary and it’s…even NOISIER than Chef Mickey’s?!

What’s Going On?

While Chef Mickey’s is a notoriously loud fixture of this hotel, for many it is still a fun spot to grab a bite to eat and (most importantly) say hello to the Fab 5 (Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Pluto, and Goofy). Because of the way that the restaurant is set up — being sort-of in the open-air right in the center of the Concourse area — you can generally hear Chef Mickey’s from surrounding shops and cafés.

Have You Been to Chef Mickey’s?

But, now something NEW has arrived at the Contemporary that’s giving Chef Mickey’s a run for its money. Earlier this year, we shared that some of the Contemporary’s Main Guest Rooms would be under refurbishment starting in April. So, today we stopped by the Contemporary to see what was going on. First of all, we were met with QUITE the sight of obvious construction.

Hello, scrims!

TONS of construction scrims have arrived and now block several walkways and levels of guest rooms.

And with the scrims came…construction noise!! Let’s just say, we don’t think Chef Mickey’s is necessarily the loudest thing in this hotel anymore.

When we spoke to a Cast Member earlier this year, they noted that the construction on the Main Tower Guest rooms is expected to last through September of this year. Of course, that construction schedule is subject to change, but what we’re gathering is that this construction likely won’t just be going away anytime too soon.

So, Is Chef Mickey’s Worth It?

The addition of construction cloths and a cacophony of construction noises made us wonder: is it even be worth going to Chef Mickey’s right now??

We’re Surrounded!

You can hear construction from all floors, and with the restaurant sitting in the thick of things, we have to say — this could put a damper on an otherwise fun meal. Would you pay $42 per person ($27 for kids) to be serenaded by the sweet sounds of…construction?

The view from above!

Of course, it’s great to see Mickey and friends, but sitting in the middle of construction noises for breakfast is not necessarily the ideal scenario.

It’s Construction Time, Fam 👊

So, is dining at Chef Mickey’s right now worth it? That all depends on you. If you’re okay with paying the fairly hefty prices to grab breakfast at this spot and see the characters, despite the construction noise — then you might be fine. Just keep in mind that this likely will NOT be a quiet meal, because of both the general noise of the restaurant AND the construction noise.

Ready to Eat?!

If you were looking for a Chef Mickey’s experience where the noise is limited to the restaurant’s typical ambiance, then you might want to consider looking for another spot for breakfast. If you’re still looking to eat with the characters, you do have other options in Disney World.

Hey There Minnie!

If it’s Mickey and friends you’re after, you could hop over to Disney’s Riviera Resort to eat at Topolino’s Terrace for breakfast. On select days, you can also grab breakfast with some Disney characters over at the Walt Disney World Four Seasons Resort at Ravello.

If you’re looking to see Mickey at lunch or dinner, you can say hello to the Main Mouse and his friends, at Garden Grill Restaurant in EPCOT or at Hollywood & Vine in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. And you can spot some other characters at other dining spots in Disney World as well.

We’ll keep you updated on anything else we see, but for the moment, you may want to consider looking at character dining options other than Chef Mickey’s because of the construction noise.

What will the Contemporary rooms look like when they’re fully refurbished, you ask? Well, Disney hasn’t shared that information yet, but we’re on the lookout for more details and will share those with you when we find them. In the meantime, stay tuned for more Disney tips and tricks and, of course, all the latest Disney news.
