An Iconic Disney World Ride Will Be CLOSED Next Week

Depending on the time of year, Disney typically has a few attractions that are down for maintenance at any given time.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

We keep you up to date on everything that’s closed in Disney World so you know what to expect on your vacation! Here’s everything that will be unavailable between February 22nd and February 28th, 2021.

Magic Kingdom Refurbishments

Hall of Presidents

A tradition is taking place at this classic attraction! After each newly-elected president takes office, the Hall of Presidents goes down for refurbishment while Disney adds an audio-animatronic of the new president. Right now, they’re busy adding President Joe Biden!

The Hall of Presidents

The show closed in January, and we haven’t received any updates on when it’ll open back up. We’ll keep you posted when Disney announces more!

Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover

It will likely be shocking to no one that the PeopleMover…remains…closed. The PeopleMover has had a tough year! It originally closed in March 2020 and did not reopen with the park that July. In fact, Disney has pushed back its reopening date a few times.

PeopleMover Closure

Our favorite highway in the sky is currently scheduled to reopen on March 1st, 2021. We recently spotted Cast Members onboard testing the ride vehicles (yes, those are REAL people on the PeopleMover!), so we have our fingers crossed!

Walt Disney World Railroad

Speaking of classic Disney attractions that are (STILL) unavailable — the Walt Disney World Railroad has been closed for almost 2 years! The TRON: Lightcycle Run construction in Tomorrowland is obstructing its path around the park, so it’s currently inoperable.

TRON Construction

We’re guessing TRON construction will have to make some MAJOR progress before the railroad can open back up. And since completion of TRON may not be finished until 2022, we could have a while to wait.

Mad Tea Party

This colorful, dizzying icon is going down for refurbishment on February 22nd. Disney hasn’t specified what work will be done, but it should be quick — the ride is scheduled to be back up after March 5th!

You Spin Me Right Round, Baby, Right Round

We’ll keep you posted as we learn more!

Kali River Rapids

In the winter, there’s less demand for water rides, so we’ll often see them go down for refurbishment. Such is the case for Kali River Rapids, which has been closed for routine maintenance since early January 2020!

The closure is scheduled to continue through April 2nd, 2021.

EPCOT Refurbishments

Rose and Crown Dining Room

Rose and Crown Dining Room closed for refurbishment on February 15th. The quick-service location in EPCOT’s United Kingdom Pavilion is expected to open back up in early spring.

Rose and Crown

In the meantime, you can head over to Yorkshire County Fish Shop for some British eats! The Rose and Crown Pub will also remain open.

Disney World Resort Refurbishments

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is undergoing some major construction. The monorail station is closed for refurbishment (actually…it’s basically totally GONE right now!), the rooms are receiving a Moana makeover, and the entrance and lobby are being transformed. We even spotted some cool new Cast Member costumes!

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

Over by the pool, Kiki Tikis Splash Play area is also closed for refurbishment through March 2021. And all the other construction around the Polynesian should wrap up this summer!

Some other Disney pools are getting an upgrade, too! The Hippy Dippy Pool at Disney’s Pop Century Resort and the Big Blue Pool at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort are both closed for refurbishment. The Hippy Dippy Pool is expected to reopen in early March, while the Big Blue Pool should reopen in early April.

Big Blue Pool

February 2021 temporary closures are also taking place at the Paddock Pool waterslide at Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa, and at the Stormalong Bay waterslide at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts.

Stormalong Bay

Both pools will stay open during this construction.

If you’re visiting Disney in the next few weeks, you’ll also want to keep in mind some upcoming scheduled temporary closures. The Swiss Family Treehouse will be closed March 12th through March 25th, 2021, and It’s Tough to Be a Bug will be closed March 8th through March 11th, 2021.

We’ll keep bringing you all the latest refurbishment news and updates, so stay tuned to DFB!
