PHOTOS: Disney Testing NEW Merchandise Mobile Checkout System

We’ve been using Mobile Order a TON lately all throughout Disney World, and placing mobile orders through the Disneyland App as well.

Ever wished you could just use a Disney app in some way to speed up your merchandise shopping experience while in the parks too? Well, Disney is now testing out something that could do just that, and we got to check it out today!

While we were in Downtown Disney at Disneyland Resort in California today, we stopped by World of Disney and spotted some signs promoting “Mobile Checkout.” This is a new service that’s now available through the Disneyland App that allows you to scan items in the store and pay for them online, potentially helping you avoid waiting in a long line to checkout.

Mobile Checkout

Here’s how it works. First, you can either open the Disneyland App, tap the plus sign in the bottom center, and then tap the “Shop in Store — Now Testing” option…

…or you can scan the QR code in the store, which will take you to this page. Once you hit “Shop in Store” you’ll be directed to the Disneyland App.

The page you’re taken to explains the new system. One of the important first steps is that you’ll need to grab a designated mobile checkout shopping bag, so be sure to look for those when you enter the store.

Then, when you’re in the store, you’ll scan the items you want to buy as you add them to your bag. Here’s what the scanning screen looks like.

We scanned the barcode for the cute Grape Soda pillow and the item appeared in our shopping bag!

Once we were done scanning the barcodes for the items we wanted to purchase, we tapped the “Check Out” option, and our Annual Pass discount was applied. We could then select our payment method, including a Disney Gift Card or Disney Rewards Redemption Card.

Once we made all of our selections, we could complete the check-out process if desired.

When you’re checked out, you’ll then head to the exit where you’ll show your QR code and a Cast Member will check your receipt.

And that’s it! Overall, it was a pretty simple process. If you experience any issues with the system, particularly with the application of a particular discount or something, be sure to ask a Cast Member for assistance.

We found signs advertising this new system all throughout World of Disney as we walked around today.

We could definitely see this system being very helpful in terms of promoting distancing and making the whole shopping experience easier, particularly when the store is busier, as it will allow guests to take care of their own shopping and checkout needs, and only require the Cast Members at the end to do a quick check. We’re interested to see how long Disneyland tests out this system for, and whether it becomes a permanent addition to World of Disney and potentially other Disney stores at Disneyland Resort or even Walt Disney World. We’ll definitely be on the lookout for more information and let you know what we see!
