The ULTIMATE Guide to Every Disney Movie Coming Out in 2020 and 2021!

We’ve seen a lot of changes to Disney movie release dates this year!

AMC Theatre in Disney Springs

Disney has postponed a number of release dates and film and television productions due to the global health crisis. The live-action remake of Mulan was initially scheduled to release in March and is now postponed with an undetermined release date. The future Star Wars and Avatar films have all been pushed back one year too.

Do to all of the changes, we did some digging and compiled a list of all the Disney movies coming out in 2020 and 2021 with the current release dates. This list also includes companies owned by Disney like Searchlight Pictures and 20th Century Studios.

Walt Disney Studios

Mulan

The live-action remake of Mulan is inspired by the Disney animated film of the same name. The film was initially set to release in March and was pushed back twice before it was postponed indefinitely.

Black Widow

The new Marvel origin film is focused on the backstory of Black Widow. The film was set to release in May 2020 and is now pushed to November 6th, 2020.

The prequel will tell the story of Black Widow prior to Avengers: Infinity War!

Jungle Cruise

Theme park fans are highly anticipating the new Jungle Cruise movie based on the Disney attraction. The movie would have released this year but has been bumped to July 30th, 2021.

We’re anxiously awaiting for The Rock to grace the silver screen again!

Soul

The newest Disney/Pixar film, Soul, will tell the story of a middle school music teacher who longs to be in a jazz band. He gets transported to another realm called the You Seminar where he discovers the true meaning of having a soul. After being postponed, the film is set to release on November 20th, 2020.

Eternals

Eternals will focus on a new team of superheroes based on the Marvel comic book series. The Eternals are an immortal species created by Celestials within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie has shifted release dates from November 6th, 2020 to February 12th, 2021.

Raya and the Last Dragon

Raya and the Last Dragon is a Disney computer-animated film that tells the story of the warrior Raya and her dragon that has the ability to shape-shift into a human. The film has also pushed back its release date and is now set to premiere some time in 2021.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

More Marvel comic movies? Yes, please! Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will tell the story of superhero Shang-Chi. This is Marvel’s first Asian-led film and has a release date of May 7th, 2021.

Cruella

101 Dalmations is getting another live-action remake. This time, the story revolves around the dastardly villain Cruella de Vil, portrayed by Emma Stone. Cruella‘s release date is May 28th, 2021.

Luca

Coming to theatres in the summer of 2021! Another Disney/Pixar film! Luca will explore an unforgettable summer in a seaside town of the Italian Riviera.

The Beatles: Get Back

The Beatles documentary will show never-bef0re-seen footage of the band recording the album “Let it Be.” The film is directed by Peter Jackson (of Lord of the Rings fame) and will debut on August 27th, 2021.

Spider-Man 3

The Spider-Man remakes have seen their fair share of drama lately! Disney finally decided to release the third Tom Holland-led unnamed Spidey movie on July 16th, 2021. It was then delayed to November 2021 and has now been pushed another month for a current release date of December 17th, 2021.

Secret Society of Second-Born Royals

The Secret Society of Second-Born Royals focuses on a group of second-generation royalty who learn that they have superpowers. The powers come from a genetic trait that is attributed to those who are born second in the royal lineage. The Disney+ movie will premiere on September 25th, 2020.

Black is King

This visual album Black is King is inspired by Beyoncé’s album “The Lion King: The Gift.” The album was a tie-in with the live-action remake soundtrack of The Lion King. The feature film is directed, written and executive produced by Beyoncé herself and will debut on Disney+ on July 31st, 2020.

This documentary will share the story of Howard Ashman. Ashman was a highly esteemed lyricist responsible for the legendary music from The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast. Howard will release on August 7th, 2020.

The One and Only Ivan

This movie is based on Christina Applegate’s well-regarded children’s book about an unlikely friendship between a silverback gorilla and a baby elephant. The One and Only Ivan is premiering on August 21st, 2020.

Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe

Where’s Perry? In this new feature film, of course! Candace has been abducted by aliens and it’s up to Phineas and Ferb to rescue their sister! The animated movie is premiering on August 28th, 2020.

20th Century Studios

Disney acquired 20th Century Studios (formally known as 20th Century Fox Studios) including the movie, television, and other entertainment assets that came with the company. Here’s the latest on their scheduled releases!

The Empty Man

This film is based on the comic book of the same name and will release on August 7th, 2020. It follows an ex-police officer who, in attempting to find a missing girl, finds a secret group who are summoning a supernatural entity.

The animated movie is categorized as a supernatural horror film. We’ll be watching this one with the lights on!

The New Mutants

This movie combines horror stories and superhero elements into one genre! The New Mutants is based on the Marvel Comic series and has an undetermined release date.

The film was pushed back, but production has already finished. We’ll be on the lookout for a release date!

The King’s Man

This prequel is an origin story to the previous Kingsman series. The feature film will release on September 18th, 2020.

Death on the Nile

This movie is based on the Agatha Christie novel and follows a “world-renowned detective, who becomes involved in a love triangle gone murderously bad while on a vacation in Egypt.” Death on the Nile will premiere on October 23rd, 2020.

This mystery thriller film is directed by the esteemed Kenneth Branagh.

Deep Water

Deep Water is based on Patricia Highsmith’s novel of the same name. It’s about a precarious relationship between a husband and a wife and will release on November 13th, 2020.

The film takes a dark turn while the husband is accused of murder! We’re already shaking in our boots.

Free Guy

This film follows a bank teller who comes to the realization that he is merely a background character in a video game that’s about to go offline. This unlikely hero movie will release on December 11th, 2020.

West Side Story

The classic musical is getting another film adaptation! This time, director Steven Spielberg is at the helm! The movie-musical debuts on December 18th, 2020 and you’ll have “I Feel Pretty” stuck in your head for weeks after that.

The Last Duel

This true story tells the history behind the last legally sanctioned duel in Medieval France. The drama-thriller will release on October 15, 2021.

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie

A new musical is rolling into theaters! The movie is based on the television documentary, Jamie: Drag Queen at 16, and will release on January 22nd, 2021.

Bob’s Burgers: The Movie

Apparently, it’s a rite of passage for adult cartoons to get their own movie! The Simpsons Movie didn’t disappoint and we’re fairly sure the full-length Bob’s Burgers movie won’t either. Join Bob, Linda, and the kids on April 9th, 2021.

In true Bob’s Burger fashion, the movie will have musical numbers. We can’t wait to hum along with the Belchers!

Ron’s Gone Wrong

The upcoming computer-animated film tells the story of the “wonderful walking, talking, digitally connected bot that sweeps the world, becoming every kid’s new Best Friend.” One thirteen-year-old boy gets a broken robot and attempts to teach it, which leads to hilarity and heartwarming moments! Ron’s Gone Wrong has a new release date of April 23rd, 2021.

The synopsis promises us that this film will be an “exploration of what real friendship means in a world of algorithms and social media.” We’ll be sure to put down our phones while we watch this movie!

Searchlight Pictures

Searchlight Pictures was also acquired by Disney during the Fox deal last year. It was formally known as Fox Searchlight.

The Personal History of David Copperfield

This whimsical film is based on the 1850 Victorian-era novel David Copperfield by Charles Dickens. The movie is currently set to release on August 28, 2020.

The film follows David Copperfield and a depiction of his life from childhood maturing into adulthood.

The French Dispatch

Lastly, The French Dispatch is about a European publication that publishes the three best stories from the last decade. This film is directed by the quirky Wes Anderson and will release on October 16th, 2020. Hopefully, the movie will be filled with whimsy and visually stunning moments like the rest of his films.
